Ranger Boats press releaseFLIPPIN, AR — California native and Ranger Boats angler Aaron Martens added to the excitement last week at the season finale of the 2005 Bassmaster Tour at Table Rock Lake by winning the Angler of the Year award.

Martens, who started the final day of the tournament in sixth place, brought in the day’s biggest limit with five-bass weighing 12 pounds, 11 ounces. His four-day tournament total of 50-3 was enough to propel Marten into a second place finish at Table Rock and earn him the title of 2005 Bassmaster Angler of the Year.

Since its inception in 1970, anglers and fans have regarded the B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year award as one of the most prestigious titles in professional bass fishing. To win the award, an angler must consistently perform at a high level throughout the course of the season against some of the toughest pro anglers in the world.

Anglers are awarded points based on their finish in each of the six Bassmaster Tour events during the season. An angler receives 175 points for a first-place finish and points decrease in one-point intervals for each subsequent angler. In order to receive points, an angler has to weigh in at least one fish.

“I still can’t believe it,” Marten said hours later. “Winning Angler of the Year is something I have always wanted, but I never really thought I had a chance coming into Table Rock. It’s a reward that will continually encourage me and serve as a constant reminder of the great opportunity in this sport.”

Aaron Martens entered the tournament in a tight race for angler of the year honors. Martens, who needed to finish fourth or better to take the prestigious award, edged out his closest rival who missed the cut for the semifinals.

Martens has been a member of the Ranger anglers for more than a decade. He uses a 521VX Tour Edition boat during competitions.

“The 521VX provides a solid fishing platform and more floor, storage, and fishing space than other boats on the market,” said Martens. “And with the Ranger name on the side I have the confidence I need to focus on fishing.”
