WOW! :o
An NBAA event with a WHOPPING winning weight of 29.42 pounds recently. Check it out here. (http://www.nbaa-bass.com/pages/news/record_catch.php)
WOW! :o :o
As a guy I know would say:
"Holy Judas Margaret, look at that!" :o :o :o :o :o :o
there's a day i bet they'll never forget.... i don't re-collect any single day weight for any tournament w/that high of a weight - for any waters in mich. including LSC & saginaw bay.
good going for them guys!
I've heard rumors of a largemouth limit from Duck or Green up there a few years ago that pushed 30 pounds - it was one of the last TriState events that Phil Smathers ran.
I also recall a catch of 4 Lake Michigan smallies that weighed over 27 pounds in a small northern Michigan event a few years back too.
Pretty rare to get a limit like that, but Grand Traverse Bay has been pushing those weights for several years now. Guess we all need a road trip!
That a big weight, someone had 29.?? lbs on the Charlevoix classic series tournament, I've never heard thrity though. From the fish I've seen, you could do way more than 29lbs if you were extremely lucky. The fishery has some hogs, I've seen more fish over 6lbs up there than anywhere else.

Seems I remember a Federation Classic on GTB in October that the winner had a couple ounces less than 50# in 2 days. I think he only had 1 fish over 6# too. That was 10 or 12 years ago and the fishing has only gotten better since, but still - 29 1/2# is quite a sack!
Yeah - that classic was the first real eye-opener to many anglers who don't live in the area. Smallmouth phenom Don McCulla was the angler who sacked the 49.999 (it was close anyway) with his friend Ted Prisbe coming in real close to him.
We have so many big bass, especially smallies right now, that can be caught. I can remember not that long ago when a 20-pound sack was very uncommon, and now we barely bat an eye at 20 other than to say, hey, good day of fishing.
Look at the 24-something on Kent recently. Amazing! Two 24+ on Mullett earlier. 23 to 25 on Erie. 20 to 25 on St. Clair later in the year the past couple seasons pretty regularly. All the huge weights up on GTB with some 25 to 29+ in the past few seasons. We are spoiled!!

Correction,
THEY are spoiled.
How about last Tuesday night 3 fish 15.43lbs won. I also heard that 3 six pounders were caught.
Guess I need to take a road trip again one of these days...
I'm in!
Fish with the pros will be up there again this year during September. All of you should check it out!!
I had a couple guys mention they would recommend me, but I never heard anything... I never followed through either by asking Keith or Paul if they did that. I don't know if I can volunteer for much else right now and stay married...?
It sounds like a fun couple of days in a great part of the state. I think it is around the time of our forum tournament now too.
Ron has fished the Tear Drop Tournament Trail for several years. Tony has shown up a couple of times over the years. Ron had an 8x10 of those smallies with him at our weighin on Torch/Skegemog. He was ragging on Tony a little for holding those two fish sideways. You still can still see though that those were some toads! Tony guides on the Bay when he's not off fishing the Stren and FLW events. Both Ron and Tony are excellant anglers and really nice guys.
