The 2013 Fall MadWags Memorial Members Tournament West is scheduled for Sunday October 6th. I would prefer to go where the most members want to go, can catch some bass and enjoy themselves. I realize there is no one date or lake over there that will make everyone happy.
I just want to have good participation because it does take a fair amount of effort to put the event together. If you are likely to fish the event, please choose two lakes you would most like to fish during the event on October 6, 2013.
If you like, please share in this thread why you think one or both of your choices are the best choices thinking about everyone having the best chance to catch fish and enjoy their weekend, along with a variety of places to stay and a respectable boat ramp. I will let this go for a while and then make the best choice based on all factors.
IF YOU FORGET TO VOTE FOR TWO LAKES AND/OR WANT TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE
Scroll up the poll and click the Remove Vote link.
Then you can check up to 2 boxes and submit your vote again.
I don't have a time limit set and you can change your vote at any time with the above process until I make a decision.
Barring any classics I might qualify for, I'm in as a boater.
Woo hoo!! My two picks are the most popular so far. 3 voters, and probably ten or so to go. Hopefully more. Let's get a whole bunch of boats, like an LSC event. There's not a lake on the list too far for me to drag the boat to. That's a good thing. Waterfoul and I will be racing to his spots!
Actually... they're Ed's spots. ;D
Thanks Ed! Now I don't feel so bad. Lol!!
Count me in for this one! I wouldn't mind bringing my boat but whoever gets paired with me won't have the experience of being on a bass boat. My boat is more like an open bow speed boat that has been converted into a fishing boat. No more open bow on it and I made a nice working livewell. Only goes 40 mph and not 70 ;). I have no problem towing it to the west side, especially if we need more boats
Obviously... I didn't lock voting correctly so a few votes got in before I meant them to. If I get no more comments by the end of the week, I will open voting back up for everyone. I'll leave the votes that snuck in on their for now since people can always change them later until I turn voting off to make the choice.
Voting is now turned on.

Might be a three-way race. ;D
Ooooh... just found out those spots are all off limits!! Sorry! ;D
So far I like all the front runners.

It just so happens that there were three very distinctive spots we hit. I guess we will have to rock paper scissors for them. I get the big fish spot......even though it would probably take me 6 hours to feel a bite there.
Am I banned from voting for some reason. I can't vote for anything.
I think the voting has been shut down for now. Those votes snuck in I believe
Easy enough. Let's just go to Manistee. I've seen enough of it to want to go back for sure.
I have never been to Manistee but I'm all in for going to that lake. Plus it will give me more of a reason to go learn it
Have boat......will travel........

Hahahaha You shouldn't have that problem anymore. lol Maybe we'll all start at a different spot then rotate after 60 minutes or so. LMAOOOOOOOO :D

No. Just reading comprehension-challenged. You have LOTS of company!!
I was actually surprised that you did not first ask if I had a fever or something since I got this stuff up pretty early. Guess you're taking it easy on me this year.
Okay. I felt bad for Cy so I turned voting back on. You can all vote now.
I actually turned voting on since I have received absolutely zero additional lake comments. It appears I have a list up that makes enough people happy already. Vote away!
You should go to Florida and help then vote!

WOW the world famous fisherman Ed will be there??? Woohoo !!! :D
That would make 4 boats fighting for the good stuff. Better go to White.
Sounds like we should just go to Portage. Hopefully most guys won't have to worry about taking the good spots. And I can have my spots open to fish all day ;D
Sure and I'll just fish with you!
I fished up "north" with Edyer today and he said all those lakes have a lot of his "Stay-aWAY-POINTS" so I guess we'll have to go somewhere else.
Or, we just don't let Ed fish with us. We have Dan block this post and he will never know where we go. Looks like Portage and Cadillac are the favorites now.

Sounds good to me! But just to warn ya, I doubt my spots are as good as Eds stuff
Okay. Thanks for the warning. I'll fish with Ed! ;D
Ed is now refering to his spots as:
stay aWAY POINTS. Get it? I thought it was funny. ::)
How many posts has Ed made on here? How many posts have been made about Ed? If it makes you feel better, I won't tell anybody where your spots are. I promise. I can't guarantee I won't try to catch fish in them if I'm on those lakes though.
All in good fun guys. Ed's a great guy and a good friend.
I was going towards Ed being a popular topic for posts. He's becoming a legend on GLB. I know we're just having fun. Besides, if he does want to protect his "stay aWAY POINTS", he will come after Waterfoul. I hope you can wrestle Mike!!!

4 years in high school. But I was never a state champ and only coached a couple years of elementary/middle school freestyle so Ed has a LOT of experience (and some weight/strength) on me.
I don't know anyone who would really stand any kind of chance against the Hulk. ;D
Cadillac/Mitchell seem to be the popular lakes now. That works. I have friends that own Birchwood Resort. Guess I could go pay them a little visit.
Get us all the "Great Lakes Bass" fishermans special at the resort and I'll bet we can pretty much make sure he's full up for the weekend! ;D
By the way, Ed and I BOTH have quite a few stay aWAY POINTS on those lakes. 8)
I have never been on either lake. Funny thing is that when I moved up there in '99, I stayed at Birchwood Resort for the first month I was there. The building I worked in was right on the shore of Cadillac. I also used to sit and watch the guys on snowmobiles, real late at night, shoot the channel from Cadillac to Mitchell. Big no no if they get caught.
I'm starting to think that stay aWAY POINTS actaully means....You guys are going to catch all the big ones and good luck trying to keep pace ;).
Naw... it's just dock talk (aka fishing psychological warfare). Let it go in one ear and out the other. ;D
The poll is running pretty tight so far. No clear winner yet.

As a former school teacher I did take a LOT of child psych classes in college. That part of my education really works well with fisherman. 8)
You guys can go ahead and make the correlation yourselves... I think you're smart enough for that! LOL!!! ;D
it would be really nice to get everybody to stay at the same place

Which brings up the a question that has been out there for years and years (especially if you live in Michigan):
Why in the world would a school pick a nut for a mascot? It's not even an edible nut. They could have picked from many other nuts. The OSU Cashews. Or the OSU Peanuts. Or how about the OSU Pistachios?? Yeah, I like that one the best.
Probably because whoever decided on the buckeye didint actually know what it really was :D
I call them bucknuts... but don't tell Linda Clapper I said that!!! I hope we flush them this year! GO BLUE!
Okay. Back to the original topic...

What were we talking about?
The etymology of hoosier is unknown, but it has been used since at least 1830. According to Bill Bryson, there are many suggestions for the derivation of the word, but none is universally accepted.[citation needed] Jacob Piatt Dunn, longtime secretary of the Indiana Historical Society, noted that "hoosier" was frequently used in many parts of the South in the 19th century for woodsmen or rough hill people. He traced the word back to "hoozer," from the Cumberland dialect of England. This derives from the Anglo-Saxon "hoo", meaning high or hill. In Cumberland, "hoozer" meant anything unusually large, such as a hill. Immigrants from Cumberland settled in the southern mountains (Cumberland Mountains, Cumberland River, Cumberland Gap, etc.). Their descendants brought the name with them when they settled in the hills of southern Indiana.[1]
Smith found that the 1826 letter by James Curtis cited by Dunn and others as the first known use of the term was actually written in 1846, and a 1827 diary entry by Sandford and Son (published in a newspaper in 1859) was likely an editorial comment and not from the original diary. Smith theorizes the word originated in the Ohio River commerce culture as a term for Indiana farmer flat-boatmen and did not become an insult until 1836.[4]
Fisk University history professor William Piersen suggests that followers of preacher Harry Hoosier were the original "Hoosiers". Harry Hoosier was a black itinerant Methodist minister who evangelized throughout the American frontier at the beginning of the 19th century. Piersen writes, "Such an etymology would offer Indiana a plausible and worthy first Hoosier – 'Black Harry' Hoosier – the greatest preacher of his day, a man who rejected slavery and stood up for morality and the common man."[5]
The term came into general usage in the 1830s. John Finley of Richmond, Indiana, wrote a poem, "The Hoosier's Nest",[6] which was published in 1833[7] and was used as the "Carrier's Address" of the Indianapolis Journal, January 1, 1833. It was generally accepted as a term for Indiana residents by the 1840s,[7] and as it came into common usage, the debates about the term's origin began.[1]
Your sure they didn't just steal this from the Canucks - hoser?!?
I thought Sanford and Son had a junkyard. Didn't think they knew how to write.
Cadillac and Mitchell, well are we going to wrap this up and go to Cadillac/Mitchell?
Not quite ready to pick yet. I want to see a few schedules out before I call it. It is still pretty close.
You guys don't know what your missing by not going just a bit further west! ;D
Nope, they definitely don't. Oh well, more for me and you come next fall.
We used to rent a trailer at the campground on the Manistee river just over the M55 bridge. Would make a great base camp. easy access to the lake.
As low as the water is... it might not work out up the river at all. BUT!!! It's snowing like crazy right now so maybe the water levels will start to come up a bit?? One can only hope.
looked it up in my log book. We stayed at the Insta Launch Campground. They are right at the mouth by the rail road bridge. They used to have charter boats there and there was a channel to the lake. Looks like 110.00 a night will rent a 2 bed room mobile home. Not fancy but we used to have a lot of fun there.

We got about 4" here in GR. They got a lot more south and east of us. The line never made it out of Kent County as far as I can tell...
i was up to howard city and they got a bit. we got 3-4 inches - further east the more north it went.
We only got an inch or two in the Saginaw area. Once you start headin north there is a ton of snow. I'd say about 10 inches near houghton and close to 20 inches in Petoskey
Nice to see Manistee pull into the lead. I'm pulling for a west side lake to win
We got less than 1.5 inches in Lansing.
so much for the snow reports lets pick a lake
Ok. Muskegon it is. Right after we watch the big dogs find all the really big fish. Sound good to you Dan?
That seems boring to me... too easy??
Due to the unexpected bonus of getting the Toyota All-Star Week in Muskegon the original week of our Fall MadWags, I've had to push the date out to Sunday, October 6, 2013. I hope that does not mess too many people up but I plan on being at the All-Star event doing media and I expect many of you will want to be around that event too. Thanks!
Right now, I'm thinking maybe we do this at Manistee. Are there enough spots for ~15 boats to all catch a bunch of bass?
Dan, Oct 6 at Manistee for the fall MagWags tournament is this a for sure date and location ?
I'll probably get shot for fishing BOTH weekends before my wedding!
