The Rescue Stick (http://www.ezods.com/go/store/details/Mustang_Survival_Rescue_Stick) is nice.  It doesn't qualify as a Type IV throwable, though, so you'll still have to keep a cushion on board.

Since I fish alone quite a bit and have a little one at home, I decided this year to carry an EPIRB (http://www.ezods.com/go/store/safety-equipment/epirb) on my boat when I fish Erie or Lake Michigan.  They're pretty expensive, but with a 4 year old at home and another one on the way (which I just found out  :) ), I figured it was a small investment - especially when fishing in late fall/early spring in the big stuff...

That is why I bit the bullet and bought an XPS Self inflatable PFD.  I pretty much wear it all of the time.  Oh and by the way the BPS XPS self inflatable PFD is the same thing as the Mustang.  It even comes with the mustang instruction book inside.
