How many of you have ponds you like to fish? I had a great little lake/pond behind my apartments before I moved that I fished pretty much every night after work. I was in the area and had some rods and tackle in the truck, so I decided to stop and see if I could catch anything. 2nd cast and I caught the one pictured below on a shakey head. Shortly after a storm blew in and I didnt feel like getting wet so I left. It was a good time while it lasted.
i had 2 really good ponds in IN i used to fish. 1 belonged to an older gentleman who landscaped the whole thing and stocked it with about 500lbs of baitfish a year.... told me any fish under 17" i was supposed to move to another pond he had out back. Average fish there when i was in high school went about 19" biggest i ever caught was 23" and came in around 6lbs. not bad for a 3/4 acre pond :) Of course some AHoles who had permission to fish there also came in and kept a bunch of fish (replacing them with smaller fish from other ponds) and screwed it all up.
The other pond was an old creek bend that was closed off. Family friends owned it and you needed a small pond hopper to fish it because of dense thicket all around it. No one fished it for probably 15 years until i went out there once when i was 14. First fish was a 5lber in january on a spinnerbait. Also caught a 17" crappie out of there, was pretty skinny though. Caught another 3lb bass on a 6" crappie there once also!
I like pond/pit fishing, but I haven't done it in a while. Lived on a farm for 2 years with a pond full of big bass that were stocked. Had to constantly fight off trespassers even though the pond was not visible from the road.
Fished a lot of pits and ponds with many, many fond memories and valuable lessons learned.
I used to mow a ladies grass near Brighton and she had a small pond out back, would push the small jon boat out to the middle and was able to fish all sides. Caught alot of big largemouth out of there, too bad she moved.
Also fish the pond up where I deer hunt, they stocked it with largemouth, blue gill, crappie, and perch. I think they may have even tossed in a few smallies that they caught up around port austin. Took my little brother-in-law out there last year and every cast with a stick bait had fishing fighting over which was going to eat it. He had a blast!
I really like fishing a lot of these smaller ponds too. I'm considering a really small boat for it, maybe even a kayak. There are a lot of little ones around where I live that would just be too hard to get the bass boat into.
I have a couple of friends that use tubes, and kick boats. There are actually quite a few places around the Pinckney Rec. area that can be reached via these devices, that boats can't get to.
