Post by: jerkin on July 06, 2008, 07:53:34 PM
Bait Pod's and Seagulls = Smallmouth Bass  ;D Today i saw bait pod's the size of my
chevy pickup truck. I have only herd of such crazyness. Anyone have any idea what
kind of bait i was seeing. OH and not another boat in sight pretty awesome . Well Tuna
boat's but thats it. The pod's looked like weed bed's, dark spot's but moving. This was just
crazy, anyone else see this stuff going on today?

Saw the same thing today to jerkin coming back from the south shore. dark spots and gulls and fish crashing surface. I think they were feeding on the fish flies. Tons of slicks when we got over the shipping channel heading back to 9 mile.

Wolf did you stop to fish any? I was throwing a weightless bubblegum senko until my arms
fell off. Were talkin big fish 4's n 5's. Weighed in 20.17 last week in a tournny doing the same
thing. That stuff is as addicting as it get's, just wonder how long that will last? I think the minnows were eating the fly's and the smallies were eating the fly's and the minnows. I fact
the tuna boats seemed to get things going. Who knows,  no bass pro here just love to fish for those big smallmouth bass. I fish for fun more than tournny's now days , one here one there
so i have no problem giving up info when i wackem.

I am with you jerkin.  I fish more for fun than for tourneys any more.  I fish a few tourneys but not as much as years past.  Too much fun fishing with my kids.  Saw the same thing yesterday.  I thought those could have been alewifes.   ???  Looked like alewifes.

You could have pulled up anywhere the water was clear yesterday and caught good ones.  I caught about 40 or so and they were all keeps with a few 5's, several 4's, too many 3's to count.  Lots of fun.  I hope the FLW Pro's don't catch too many there and move them all to the Elizabeth Park area.  It will be 2 to 3 months before those displaced fish make it back to those areas.  At least that is my theory......... ???
