Title: Baw Beese Chain - 8/16 (!Full Moon!)
Post by: Northern Bass Bum on August 16, 2008, 11:40:56 AM
As most of you know, (or should!), today is August the 16th, the full moon of the month! Of course we just had to get out so we hit the Baw Beese chain from about 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Unfortunately, the topwater bite was less than optimal, only one smack at a Rapala Skitter-Pop - miss!

As the day progressed, the sky was high so we started deep, 15-30' of water with C-Rigs and deep cranks. I hung the first fish on a C-Rig in about 25' of water. Nice little 3-pounder!

Moving on... We kept on keepin' on in the deep. Hung a small one on the Drop-Shot. Lost a pike on the deep crank dad did.

Lost a few more smallies on the DS, lost two  ore on the C-Rig, and had some huge gar follow us in. Bigguns too....

Overall good day!

Thanks, guys!

This lake has really been hot lately. Heck, all the lakes around here been hot lately. Round, Hudson, Baw Beese. You name it, we seem to have been finding fish. Except for Hudson, all fish have been caught deep on plastics, especially the Drop-Shot. Hudson is a good crankin' lake and bangin' cranks off the rocks in 2-8' of water is key. Contact has been the ticket lately.

I sure wish I could've been in that club tourney though. From most of the guys we talked to, we were doing great. All the others we getting short fish or none at all. They launched around 6:10 AM so we had to launch at the Hillsdale Township launch rather than the State launch. All the boats were lined up waiting to blast off.

Really though, I should've had around three or four keepers. I lost two keepers just from jumping, both smallies. Then I had two more nice smallies on a Drop-Shot which come unbuttoned in about 35' of water. Maybe a switch to braid or fluoro will help that. 8-pound mono has a little too much stretch.

Thanks for the look!
