Well I know its almost too late for this fall but how is the fall fishing on the Kalamazoo and Grand Rivers? My friend Justin and I pulled a 20 pound 5 ounce bag from the St. Joe River a couple weeks ago in a tournament and usually catch at least 17.5 but it is really tough fishing and you have to know the little nitches if you can't get out on Lake Michigan to fish for the real monsters. I'd like to try Kalamazoo river by Lake Michigan next fall and the Grand if anyone else catches them there.
I tried the kalamazoo river in Saugatuck and it was tuff. As for the grand, it seems to be more largemouths than smallmouths that im sure your catching in the Joe. I dont know why they wouldnt be up here even out in the lake but maybe I dont know the nitches.
Yeah it seems crazy to me they are not everywhere but I think the goby are changing everything!!! I am going to try to Kalamazoo this next fall and see what happens but its a long way out. I've caught a lot of smallmouth in the lake down towards Indiana and between St. Joe and South Haven but they are few and far between and no big schools but every fish seems to be at least 4 pounds that I catch in deep water, a lot of small ones in shallower water.
