Title: Who's Fishing the Big NBAA Tournament Saturday on Lake St. Clair?
Post by: djkimmel on June 14, 2010, 08:37:02 PM
I will be there this Saturday again fishing with Genie and probably working the fish tanks or something. Now that the event is not in Detroit, but at Lake St. Clair instead, I may finally get to see the weigh in!

Launching out of Harley Ensign this year. I like St. Clair a lot better than the far lower end. This will be one of the biggest tournaments in Michigan this 2010 season: http://www.nbaa-bass.com/pages/news/stclair_open_0610.php

$5,000 FIRST PLACE!! With just 75 entries anyway. I don't expect that to be a problem. There's a 150 boat limit. I expect over 100 boats. Maybe we'll hit the max even. There's also a free raffle for participants.

I'll be there!  I hope the smallies will be putting on the post spawn feed bag.

Me too. Haven't caught a big smallie in over two weeks. Need to feel the bend in the rod!

That's alright, Mike, I understand.... :(

Actually, Paula would whoop me if I don't stay home one day this month, 'specially with the anniversary in 2 days!

Youch... two worst days maybe I've ever spent on St. Clair since maybe the first two days I ever spent on there long ago. Very tough. Glad I didn't have much on the line. Did a bunch of assistant/gopher work at the event with Genie. We only fished about 3 hours today. Had a fish on and had a big follower, and that was it. Not many yesterday in our one day of practice.

1st place Mason and Gibson creamed everyone with 22.24 pounds and 3rd big bass of 5.03 - good for $5,000!! Not too shabby for just going fishing.

Dropped to less than 18 pounds for 2nd and 3rd. 79 boats with 13 places paid. Only about 14 1/3 got you in the top 13. One of the lower weigh ins I've seen there in quite a while. A number of the names didn't even weigh their fish. Lots of 12's.

Ben Felton and his partner Josh (I think) took 3rd with 17 something and big bass of 5.19 pounds though their motor wouldn't start for the last 3 hours of the event. They made it in with another competitor and a commercial tow later.

Three bass over 5 weighed in total. Not even that many 4 pounders. The event went well, and the weather and wind ended up pretty decent after the previous night's storm and a rough Friday.
