Dan, what would you do with me?
So many ideas... so little time... ;D
Actually, I'll probably hire you some day. When I get to about 30,000 members maybe...
Dang... you keep scheduling this thing on a day I already have a tournament. Maybe next year.
Huge family rebellion (I mean, reunion) for grandpa's 90th b-day. I could come fishin but might not have a family to come home to. You know which one I BETTER choose. Have fun without me!
I think there is no shortage of tournaments on the West side of Michigan...
I'm plannning to fish it, as a boater.
Yeah! Vince! Another blue chip! :D
I'm Intending on fishing this, As a Boater!
So if my usual partner comes, he has to go into the draw?
I will try and make it. I hope to be able to bring my son along and fish with him.

One of the main purposes for the DK Open is for everyone to get to know each other so I prefer to draw people out with someone new or that they don't normally fish together.
But the MAIN idea is to have fun and catch bass, so if you want to fish with someone specifically, he/she also needs to be a member if 13 or over and just send me a PM (private message) with both of your screen names saying you want to fish together and I will accommodate you. Have your friend post on here saying he/she is coming also so people can see who is coming and how many please. Thanks for fishing.
Any similar questions about family, etc, please PM me.

If your son 13 or older, I would prefer to have him also be a member if he has his own email address (you can make email addresses private in your profile). You can fish with him.
If you do not want him to be a member here or he is younger than 13, then he does not have to be a member. Either way, please send me a private message (PM) with your screen name telling me his first name and that you want to fish with him. Also state if you prefer to only fish with him and no one else in the boat because of boat size or preference. I need to be sure on that in case I'm short of boats. Thanks for fishing.
Hey Dan, Put me down as a boater. I can go both ways though.... errrrrrrrrr I mean boater or non boater. I've only been on White twice so I can hop in another boat if need be. Just let me know when it gets closer, what you need me to do. :)
Thanks FF. I will probably need the boats. I usually do. So you can... well, you can just go the one way ;D I will offer fishing advice for those who would like some tips at the big pre-tournament meeting. That may be my only trip to White Lake (that one anyway) this year, but it fishes similar as far as just catching some bass each year.

Well, actually he (or anyone else) can go whatever way they want... as long as they don't leave White Lake! :o

I'm in as a boater by the way.

Ok it's been a while I know, I haven't forgotten about all of you..life has been a little crazy for me, I lost my job in February but I'm enjoying be off, but that means hubby has to work alot of hours while I've been enjoying my second passion! We haven't been able to fish many tournaments this year...we will however make this one...so Dan count Terry in as a boater and me as a non boater, we can fish together or not however you want to work it. We are looking forward to seeing everyone!
Wow! That is great news. I'm collecting some goodies to give away as usual. Hopefully everyone will get something. I appreciate that companies are willing in these tough times to still donate some prizes for everyone. I will start listing them off soon.

Uh ohhhh! You guys aren't gonna take that, now are you? Better get over here and show us what's up. ;D
The tournament season isn't getting any less crowded... We'll do okay. A few more persons have told me they'd be there too. Just have to keep pestering them to post here.
There is an NBAA tournament on St. Clair on the 11th, The Saturday St. Clair Double Barrel Shootout. This series typically draws pretty good, especially when it moves to the St. Clair River.
This is the last of the series, and there may be a few guys making a run at qualifying for the Spring Championship. Also, there have been some huge weights caught over there, lately.
Some of the GLB guys are fishing that series.
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be there, with a couple more crankbaits for prizes. Non-boater. Whats the lodging looking like? Is there a campground, or cheap motel on or near the lake? I would love to come up Friday morning, maybe bring my boat to fish Friday and possibly Sunday morning. Thats assuming my pos truck will make it that far. Unless there's a boater that needs a practice partner and has an open seat in their truck for me (maybe a place to sleep also). I'm certainly willing to split costs. If I do end up driving, I may be able to bring another non-boater with me, if there willing to stay a night or two. Where are you eetz? You can hop in with me.
There are a couple of motels within 5 minutes of the lake. I'm not sure about campgrounds, though.
there's a motel 8 on the 31 exit. Search montague or whitehall lodging.
i've actually slept on the front deck of a legend le-19 at the ramp there... it was quite nice. Would've been great had those salmon fisherman not started filing through at 3am
Veronica and I are staying at the Hotel SZ lol. I hear they have great rates.
I've heard about that place! I'm staying there too. We'll have to do a cook out on Friday night.
Well, I thought I wasn't going to make it, but the wife happened to notice two things.
1. There are Bed and Breakfasts in Whitehall
2. It's within 4 days of our wedding Anniversary
This could be a very expensive tournament

AWESOME DAN. Best news I've had in a while. Cant wait. Tell Connie, good choice lol.

Let's hope someone on these boards can help make this one a happy ending........
I took a new job yesterday that requires a 2 full weeks of training at the corporate office in Akron, OH from Sept. 7th - Sept. 17th. Not only will I be unable to attend the 2nd 2010 DK Open on the 11th I will also miss the ROI Camp & Cruise Classic on Hamlin the 12th - not cool at all but I guess I need to fund my obsession with whacking bass somehow.....
There could be a silver-lining to the story - Akron is only an hour from Vermillion, 90 minutes to Port Clinton, and 2 hours from Toledo so if there is anyone out there who fishes or knows someone who fishes Erie from Toledo-Vermillion please contact me. I could go out smallie jacking on the 11th or 12th - help me realize my boyhood, adulthood, and fishhood dreams by taking me fishing on Erie either the 11th or the 12th. It's like the Make-a-Wish Foundation for bass-addicts!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrrats on the new job Luke, you will be missed at White.
Oh man... I need to share the Outside Hub Quote of the Day for today:
"If fishing is interfering with your business, give up your business."
--Sparse Grey Hackle (you think we're weird... those fly anglers are really something!)
Well, we booked a room today. I got off cheaper than I thought. I'm looking forward to fishing White as I've never been there before. We are planning on being there early on Friday so at least I'll get a few hours in before the tourny. It should be fun!

Great! Thanks!
I was on White this morning with my dad. What a weedy mess. It's worse than I remember it at this time last year. For us, the fishing was slow. We didn't see anyone else doing much either. There were probably 6 or 7 other bass boats out. Got very windy very fast. When the wind changed direction, and came right from the west, had to have been close to 20 mph. Most of our bites were on spinnerbaits at the weed edges, running them just under the surface. We did get a couple on tubes, but only a couple. Can't wait to see everyone there.
Tough luck Mike. I'm sure with all the warm temps this year the weeds have exploded. There's a webcam of the backwater area just up river from the launch and it looks thick !!

Way to get everybody excited about coming!!!!!!!!!! ;D
You cant count on anything Mike says anyway. He makes most of this stuff up. LOL Seems like I remember him telling me once that he knew how to catch fish on Muskegon too. LOL All in good humor Mike
Ouch! Tough crowd. Dan, I'm sorry. Everybody needs to be VERY excited for White. The weeds will go down, and there will be 7 pounders galore on the 11th. As for mikesmiph.....I hope you can swim! You wanted to go fishing on the 10th, right? Just kidding, you won't have to swim.
Not with that anchor chained to his ankle anyway...!! ;D
give it a another week of cool nights and get those water temps down out of the 80s and back into the low 70s and things will start to pick up again. I've noticed a lot of lakes have cooled off quite a bit in the last week. Fishing is starting to pick up already now that the weather has stabilized also.
Its going to be a wonderful time.
What, swimming with an anchor attatched to you? That's the last thing Dan talked about. Personally, I'd be looking forward to fishing. That's just me though.
Mike and Mike..... you fishing Friday??? Is there anyone else???
I forgot all about school starting. Veronica has school on Friday, we wont be able to get there till evening.

I'm heading up after work Friday morning(3rd. shift). Hope to be there by noon. I want to get out and get a lay of the lake if I can stay awake ;D
Just throw a line over the side, drift and drag. When a fish bites... you'll wake up!! :o

I haven't decided for sure yet Mike. My daughters have a soccer game Thursday. I'm going to head to my trailer on Hamlin Lake. If I don't head up Thursday after the game, I'll prolly leave early Friday morning. White lake is about 2 1/4 hours for me. (From home) I originally was going to fish Hamlin Friday, but if you and or any other members are going to be there, I'm seriously thinking about White.
I have Friday off, and I'm planning to go fishing. Just don't have anyone to go with. Everybody has to do that "W" thing. Don't want to put any profanities on here, it is a family site. If anyone wants to fish in the morning, I'm available. I'm no pro on that lake, and I've only been on it 3 times this year. You know, if anybody is interested, I live 10 minutes south of White, we could get together at my place and have a cookout Friday evening. Plenty of room for trucks and trailers. Just an idea.
You know the big V and I will be there.
Yes sir!
I may be interested in fishing with you on Friday Mike. I work midnights, and would be leaving after work early Friday morning.
Hey Mike, if it doesn't work out with Bassassasin I'll fish with you Friday.
I can fish 3 pretty easy in my boat. Done it a few times. Let me know what you guys want to do, and what time you're going to be in town. I'll give you my number, because I'll probably be on the water before you guys are here. Could just meet at the launch.
Is there a DNR launch you can use to avoid the $10 fee?
Not on White. However, there is a 3 dollar launch at Armstrong's, which is on the soith end of the lake. Or you can launch in the river for free.
you can use the river launch for free on white. its not great, but doable.
I used the river launch once with my Nitro. It worked perfect for the Bass Tracker. The only problem is that the concrete only goes so far, and then the trailer tires drop off the end, and the bottom of the trailer drags the concrete. It makes a horrible sound. I'm sure the water is lower now than it was when the fish were bedding. Like the dude said, it is doable. When i have used the river launch, I have always backed in at an angle, really helps when loading the boat so you don't have to fight the current too much.
Dan, I hate to say it, but it looks like I won't be able to fish White Lake. If things change, I'll let you know.
NOT AGAIN VINCE!!!!! You can't keep doing this to me!
What time you hitting the water Mike?? I'm sure you can fish three to your boat, but if that's the caes I'll just use mine. I'd have an open seat if anyone else wants it. I could prolly be there fairly early, no matter if I come from home or Ludington.
I'll probably be at the launch at 6:30. I like to get out and watch the sun come up.
DK,
At what point are you going to cancel this event due to lack of participation? I didn't count the number of entries but I would think it is about 6 people...and 3 or 4 of us fish White all the time. What is it going to take to get more people to sign up for this!!??

I would fish this but I have a family reunion on the 11th. I have wanted to fish White Lake for an long time, I just never seem to make it over there.

I'm not canceling. I will be there. I have quite a few prizes already too. I know more than that have told me they are fishing. I realize some of them have not posted on here yet that they are coming. I will have to remind them as I go through my notes, email and Facebook stuff. Ranger_boats_team_north (Danny - however he spells it) told me he was fishing. He may be coming with someone. I'll have to get on his case (some more).
Genie is coming. I have to check with marya again to see if she can make it yet. I will send out email tomorrow. I would like to see more people there of course, but we'll do the best we can with all the conflicts and everything else going on.
Hmmmmmmmmmm I'm just thinkin there's a better chance of me winning something now !!!!!!!!! ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D :D Naww the more the merrier !!!
Yep, Cy. 4".
I know of 18 coming so far. I will send out email to ask people to confirm.
I'm including Genie and Ranger_Boats_Team_North who both told me they were fishing.
I had 19 maybe's on Facebook from my invitation and only 3 of them say they are coming so far.
I also have 2 more people who only replied on Facebook that I will confirm.
I will post a list as soon as I get a few confirmations back from some questionable entries. At that point if any of the members who said maybe on Facebook have now made up their minds, I'd appreciate knowing so. I don't want to irritate people with a bunch of updates.
Count me in for this White Lake duel...

I will be participating in the DK Open next weekend as a non-boater with Bassfan586. Bassfan586 will be signing up later today/tomorrow.
Thanks!
Sign me up as a boater. I live about 5 minutes from White Lake and fish it quite regularly.
i just came back from spending 4 quality days at the LAkeside Resort on White Lake. A PERFECT blend of bed and breakfast feel and rusty quiet quality cottageness. Plus there were 3 and 4 lb fish in the weedbeds off the dock. They love drop shot Nemisis purple smoke 4 inch for whatever reason. SLOW fishn is the key on White.
Docks are great after about 9 -10 am once the sun is up. Rip rap along the channel to LAke Michigan has nice fish as my wife caught a few there too. Good luck guys - cant make it, but if you can - stay at the hotel. Quaint and hospitable.

DJK, is drop shotting being allowed in your tournament? Don't matter to me since I can't be there but ya may want to clarify with everyone who is to avoid any confusion (just my 2-cents).
I would hope it's not an issue, but drop-shotting is illegal on White Lake without using a 3" dropper or longer line for the hook from the main line.
Dan,
Put me down as a boater. Willy butch will ride in the back and take pics and try to fish. Mikeszr800 are we going to race to a couple of spots?

As I recall, your boat would kick my boat's butt, and I'm going non boater. I have hit that spot every time I have gone to White since I saw you wreck them over there, and haven't caught a single fish there. But, if I end up in a boat that will beat yours, you bet, we're racing! Glad to see you're going to make it.
I hate to do this to you Dan but Terry can't make it, has to work, he was thinking about taking the day off, but after dinner with Firefighter Jeff on Sunday he was home sick all day on Monday!! Sory to say it but it looks like I will have to pass again this year, the healing from my cancer surgery is just not far enough along, a 3 hr ride in the truck yesterday about killed me, I cant imagine 8 hrs in a boat or at least not yet!

Can you have him confirm with me by posting on here that he is now coming. I need it for my memory as I'm updating my list. I've listed you but I want to be sure before I do pairings.

I talked to 1Jav today and he is still going to a football game but its in the evening and he can fit in the DK open too. Think he is at work now and will confirm tonight I assume as a boater.
Well, because I really like fishing bass tournaments (and am not very smart), I am going to try to make it from Indiucky here to White Lake in time to fish too. I will bring my boat.
Can you show us on a map exactly where Indiucky is? Wow, this tourney is growing, finally. Guess we won't know who we're fishing with until 7:30 Saturday morning. ???

TCOOK If 1jav can't make it and you still want to go, I could pick you up on the way from south bend.
AWESOME! The list is looking better all the time. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, except for Eric and looking forward to fishing. Just kidding Eric. ;D
Coming from the Flint area. Plenty of room, if anyone needs a ride.
Football game starts at 7 pm by Fort Wayne, so I have time to squeak in the tourney, but won't have time to talk much afterward, so we will be a little early. Will be a boater, if possible Dan can you please put Nick, Stcroixnick, in the boat with me. I don't have a real graph anymore and he has never been on big water in something as meaningful as this tourney, so I want him to get the enjoyment from it and no one else to have to suffer. I know my way around White a little also, so that will help our cause I hope. Boater, if you didn't get that from the post already.

Well, I was just packing up to head home after work this morning and got the word we are working this weekend. No White Lake for me Saturday. Now I have to go home and tell the wife the anniversary celebration will be at home rather than the Weathervane Inn in Montigue. Have a good time everyone.
Oh no, no, no ,no ,no. See, your work has it all wrong. You tell them that when you're done fishing and celebrating your anniversary, you will be back to work. Until then, they will have to live without you there. ;D
Bob, thanks for the offer but 1Jav is going for sure so I will see you up there sat

Well, because I really like fishing bass tournaments (and am not very smart), I am going to try to make it from Indiucky here to White Lake in time to fish too. I will bring my boat.
you just want to remember what it feels like to catch a fish lol
Anyone else gonna be on White tomorrow (Friday) ???? Looks like I'll be fishing with Mikeszr800. I'd say look us up, but I have no clue what I'm fishing out of yet. LMBO See ya there !!! :) Safe trips for everyone.

Jeff is fishing out of a black and silver Nitro that has a GLB sticker on the drivers windshield.
Okay. I have 1javelin officially down and all set now.
BUT what is this Durand Dan thing??!!?? I may have to do the draw at the ramp that morning!! Can you imagine if this was a 100 boat tournament!!! I would never get it right!!! ;D
FYI, there is a 15 boat club tournament launching at the ramp that same morning. They are going out at 7 AM and not coming in until 3 PM so we can squeak in between them. The ramp and lake are big enough for us and the boats that might run up from the BBT too. Man! You guys have a lot of tournaments on that west side!!
Firefighter Jeff - you're a boater Saturday, aren't you?
my guess is that 10-15 boats will run from the bbt out of muskegon if the big lake isn't to bad. its there last chance to make the classic.
I'm driving in from the eastside early Saturday morning. I'm not gonna be able to pre-fish at all, and I have never been to White before. Can someone give me a quick run down of what tackle I should bring, and what types of structure, and cover I should be prepared to fish?

White Lake has grass, lots and lots of grass. It also has a couple marinas and lots of docks. The docks are shallow but will hold good fish. You will find old pilings, slab wood, surface grass, weed edges, submerged wood and sand. I don't know of any rocks but there might be some. The water normally rather clear, I would say 5+ of visibility.
I haven't been out there since early this summer but in general you honestly can fish anyway you want to on White, except for the drop shot. For me I will throw a top water, texas rig, jig, shallow cranks or traps, shaky head, senkos and mid to deep cranks.
In short...bring everything you have and just wing it or junk fish.
Weather for Saturday looks mostly cloudy and chance of rain. Water temps are probably 65 to 70 degrees. Fish should start chasing shad out there anytime now.
See ya Saturday.

After being out of work for way too long, I am happy with any hours I can get. But why this weekend after no overtime for 4 months? And in this economy if I even mentioned I didn't want to work.......

Sorry Dan. I was really looking forward to fishing White. I even had McCarter pour me some custom Sickos and Gobies for the event!
That's just wrong... I guess we all need to win the lotto or something. Anyone have any good numbers?
It wasn't totally personal. Just lots of changes over the last week. That isn't even counting the text messages, email, phone calls and facebook stuff... Like I said at this rate of changes and updates, a 100 boat tournament field could be a full time job. Russ and Jack and FLW and BASS... don't worry about me!! ;D

Yes Dan, I'll have my boat there Saturday.
Just wanted to make sure. The changes must be winding down by now!!
I hate to say this on such short notice, but......... Veronica and I are coming. We'll still fish in the same boat. Maybe I'll let Veronica drive, just so we change something lol
Well... that's good news!
The bad news is spinninbug can't make it now. Sorry to hear that.
The good news is, I have room for one or two more nonboaters! Two if Eric makes it back from Patoka awake! Anyone want to fish?
