Title: Lake Winyah in Alpena
Post by: LennyB on September 28, 2010, 06:54:58 AM
Our club is heading to Alpena for a fun fishing weekend. Most are planning to fish Long and Grand but I was thinking of Lake Winyah to avoid all the boats. Anyone ever fished this lake? It looks like, from the map, a flooded river system, stumps, shallow, river channel, etc.... Is it smallies, largemouth or both? Clear or colored water? Weedy or not? Thanks for any tips.

I've never even noticed it! Does it have a public access? Almost sounds like some kind of joke - Winyah?!? ;D

Grand and Long are both big lakes. Should be lots of room.

My Inlaws live on Long Lake.....I sure wouldn't worry about room this time of year....I know the Alpena Bass club has an open this time of year but I don't think it is this weekend.....
Grand and Long are practically empty in the fall......
I have never heard of Lake Winyah.....but there are all sorts of little lakes up there...
If you really feel the need to get away try Fletchers Pond...

Well... I can understand it from the point of view that I get bored easy. I sometimes fish new lakes just for that. I sometimes regret it quite a bit too (i.e. Beaver Lake). But once in a while I'm glad I get bored easy...
