Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Just got back from Matteson's. The wife and I attended two great seminars by Balog and Cochran. Joe's presentation on Smallies focused on their aggressive habits and how to capitalize on them. George enlightened the group about his favorite baits and how to use them. He was really enthusiastic about the Jackall flick baits and wacky rigging. As he is retiring in two years he talked a lot about his specific techniques with top water and spinner baits. In fact I don't ever remember a Pro teaching so much and not mentioning hardly anything about the manufacturers. My wife and I had a chance to speak with Mr. Cochran at length and found him to be a great person. Oh, I didn't see Mr. Kimmel, he must have slept in. ;D The Cinnamon rolls and the polish sausages' were great!!

Dan

What, Lt. Dan sleeping in when the cinnamon rolls were homemade and coming out by the trays full! I think not.  ;D
I also attended the seminars and thought the two speakers did well. Always a friendly bunch there. I like listening to Balog. He does a good job. Cochran was interesting, but he's not a northern fisherman.

And we all thought Dan was late, He was just waiting until we all went into Joes seminar so he could have all the Cinnamon rolls to himself.

Yeah, that was CLASSIC. :D :D :D
When you are in any contest you should work as if there whereto the very last minute a chance to loose it.

djkimmel

Note that I was taking the smallest roll... so everyone else could enjoy the best cinnamon rolls in the business!!

I hit the 2nd shift. BIG crowd. Great turnout. Cochran was very funny and did talk about baits a lot. I have some video. Hope to get a little of it up tomorrow.

Interesting that he was talking about lures that you can get from Lees Global Tackle AND I was just talking about this yesterday with Peter (Bassinkid10) at Lees. I was very interested in reports on the cross tail shad lures. And there was Joe Balog telling a story about his co-angler kicking butt on Lake Champlain drop-shotting that same lure!?!

Peter tells me he has been doing super on St. Clair and Erie using the cross tail shad on a drop shot. I can tell you from a few years ago when I drew him in a BFL on St. Clair that he is an excellent drop shot angler (kicked my butt from the back of the boat). I'm going to have to try some of them this year.

BTW, thanks to all of your support Matteson Marine will be continuing as a GreatLakesBass.com sponsor for 2010, and Lees Global Tackle just extended their support by 9 months. Thanks to all of you in making it possible to keep this site going and growing. I could not do it without you.

Dan

Just an FYI, I finished up a Matteson's Marine Open House entry on my blog on http://teardropbass.com/
I included a few more pictures and a report on the seminars.

I really, truly, honestly only had 1 of those excellent cinnamon rolls (though I thought about asking if I could take some home ;D... but I didn't).

So did George Cochran do two seminars then? Because I didn't see Durand Dan there... and I know what all the 'Dans' look like. Handsome devils...

I hope everyone took a good look at some of those awesome Ranger Boats too. Apparently that was the real goal... not the cinnamon rolls :D
