Where the tarnation is Uwharrie lake and how did it get this name?

zooker

the upper uwharrie lake is the damming of the uwharrie river.this is north carolina they have some weird names of stuff around here.
the lake has a real name.but you'll never hear of it refured to as such. mostly either they call it "upper uwharrie" or the "secert lake #1".

the water was used in the textile mills in the area..since the lake no longer supplys the mills the water stays at a consistant level. the owners sold the lake 15-20 years ago to the city-not saying which one- parks and rec deptment.

at that time they set the currant leagel limit of 14" on the bass and 10" on the crappie. this lake has no devlopement and only one ramp which cost you $9.50 to launch.it is heavily patroled and controled lake, speed limit is 25 mph.

an 8 pounder is no suprise out of it.i have caught my 5 largest largemouth bass from this lake.inculding a 9 pound 6 ounce toad i caught on a crankbait in JULY... as for pictures. i have some from several years ago, that i CAN release but no new ones that i'll post on any open forum..this lake is one of the areas best kept secerts.those of us that fish it regularly intend to keep it that way..-it is nothing personal-

last july 4th there was only 11 boats on this lake.it aint huge but i have run 6 miles or so one way up it.

the lake it self has 2-3 tournys each year.if you have 30 pounds 5 fish you might make it into the money, this is not a joke..
i won a tounry last year there in may-post spawn-by 3.5 pounds.three fish limit.

just so ya know. this was the second place bag..

i'll be there again tomarrow-still looking for a 10+ pounder

If I come to visit NC State this summer I will have to try and contact you so you can take me out and show me a good time.  I'd cover the ramp fees and gas, and of course lunch.  You can even make me sleep on the way there so I don't know where in tar-nation we're at.  I could use a big fish here and there, that's not always brown or from the same lakes.

Might have to schedule a trip then!!  Might have to come anyways, just to see what fishing in the south is like.  Ouachita is the only southern water I have any experience on.

I see a lot of people like Tuckertown Lake. Looks like it is just below High Rock Lake? Best I could tell. I see several interesting looking lakes in that area. Badin? Tillery? I hear they are busy with boat traffic. I see a couple interesting looking lakes nestled farther up in the hill country. I have High Rock on my list of lakes to fish some day. Never fished it but I was there when Bryan Kerchal won the Classic. I had to go to meetings, not fish.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

highrock has no weeds or grass. tuckertown is full of them..badin has it's monments.
both badin and tuckertown have mid summer bite shut downs.. the rock don't..
