Bobbers 1st bed fish and the aftermath

Bobber and I hit Kent Last night for what we hoped was going to be a relaxing evening of crushing big Kent Lake smallies.  Being that young Bobber had never caught a bed fish, or fished for spawners at all for that matter, i wanted to introduce him to it.  so after dumping the boat into the water, we headed straight to smallie heaven.  It didnt take too long to find a good one sitting on a bright disk on the bottom.  I got into position and dropped the mushroom and made a few casts with a Sicko.  The fish nipped it a few times but wouldnt commit.  I grabbed Bobbers DS rod, which was already rigged with a 3" Nemesis Goby (bless his little heart)  and tossed it behind the bed.  Using a slow pulling motion, i got the bait into the bed and gave it a shake.  My line immediately went tight and the fight was on.  After i few seconds, i boated a nice 3.5lb smallie.

Now it was Bobbers turn.  I pulled up the anchor and drifted down the shoreline a little until i seen another bed.  Dropped the mushroom again and pointed it out to Bobber.  He made several casts near the bed but was having trouble getting it to the exact area with the increasing winds.  I made my way to the back of the boat to blind cast a 5" Sicko.  After a couple casts, i hooked into another smallie.  A few jumps later and a 2.5 lber made it into the boat.  Shortly after, I hear Bobbers drag screaming.  He had got the goby in the bed and the fish took action.  After an aggressive match of big smallmouth vs light line and light action rod, Bobber reached down and lipped his first ever bed fish.

Here is a pic.  The fish went around 3.5 lbs.

He ended up catching one more fish a few moments later ( im sure he will post the pic ) on a goby and then the heavy stuff came in fast.

We made it back to the ramp just moments before the storm hit and opted to wait it out.  So i did not crank the boat all the way up to the bump on the trailer.  Needless to say, an hour later and it was still raining and blowing.  We backed the trailer back into the water to crank the boat the rest of the way up.  Big mistake!  the wind and waves blew the back of the boat off the trailer and into the dock.  there was only one option.  Bobber was getting in the water.  So off come the shoes and in he goes.  Pushing with all his 17 year old might, he was able to put the boat back over the bunks and i quickly pulled out before she blew off again.  there was actually a lot more to it, like when the bilge kicked on and the wind blew the water right into his face for a period of 30 seconds or better.  but i dont want to bore you guys with every detail.

Here is a pic of Bobber after his heroic deed.

Anyway, it was fun for 40 minutes and ridiculous for 20 minutes.

And thank you Bobber for saving my boat and making me laugh so hard that i cried.

That is one way to repay you for the bedding lesson. I've done this same thing for guys at a ramp and stupidly forgot my cell phone was in my pocket.

Those are some nice fish!

OMG, I wish I could have been there. Bobber, you are the HERO. LOL Great fish guys. Congrats Bobber on your fist bed fish. You do Nemesis Baits proud.

I don't see the boat anywhere...?? Are you sure you didn't just toss him into Kent Lake?!? ;D

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Nice job on the fish.
My concern is did he wash his feet before he went in the water?
That's all we need is some other funky virus attacking the fish. ;D

What's with the news these days on the TV and the radio. Can't find the truth amongst the lies. Some talking head that claims to live their life in a better way, says I have to compromise. But now there's something on the rise. Truth has opened up my eyes. There's no running from your dirty lies. You can't avoid the truth. I'll no longer close my eyes.
