Just recently there was a newer Skeeter in the marina at Ludington's Pere Marquette Lake. He was fishing bedded smallmouth and was culling three pounders. He said he was fishing a tournament out of Muskegon and had made the run. Some may even run to Portage in Onekama. Furtherest would be Arcadia. Smallies are bedding there right now.
A friend of mine and his wife sent me a pic of some of their latest catches up that way. These are just a couple of a big stringer they caught.
The bottom two pictures are optical illusions. If you stare at the pictures long enough you can see the fish. She's a real cutey!

Those are some nice smallies......................and oh yeah, the gal is nice too.     ;)

Every single connecting waterway on the Lakeshore has 20 lb. sacks in them.  Some guys go north and some guys go south; some just stay in Muskegon and make everyone think they ran 70 miles.  Take your pick - St. Joe, Kzoo, Mona, Pentwater, the PM, Portage....they can all produce.  To be honest there's a whole lot of deception with the "running" ordeal but that's what makes the Lakeshore an exciting and dynamic place to compete.

Are you saying fishermen (and women) can't be trusted??

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I was just kidding about what I said; all the smallmouth are caught at the Grand River!

Is it really cost effective with gas prices the way they are to run to Traverse City while fishing a tournament out of Muskegon?  Couldn't imagine that run if the wind kicked up.

I have caught nice smallest out of several of the lakes that connect to Lake Michigan. For me, this time of year is hit or miss on the smallies. Never really spent a lot of time trying to pin point where they are right now. Now, early spring, and during the fall, I know right where to go to get them time and time again.

Try Duck Lake. Might be just a little tricky to get a bass boat in there from the big lake. LOL!!!

For me

Pic 2 really caught my eye
Sure, she's a very cute girl

But the hot pink 700 reef runner is what caught my eye
Do people use them for jerk baits on SM?

I have them but use them for Walleye only.

Skulley

I didn't even notice the hot pink reef runner.  I was too busy looking at the girl.     :o          She is attractive, but not as attractive as my beautiful bride of 20 years.

That's one heck of an optical illusion...i just don't see the fish !

LOL

I think they hung that pink jerkbait on there just to throw everyone some more...

You won't run from Muskegon to catch these fish.

If it's even remotely reachable, someone will probably try it! I talked to at least two anglers who have run across Lake Michigan from there to fish Wisconsin waters!!

I don't recommend that in a bass boat though it is doable. Any weather changes could be easily missed and make it unsafe or impossible to get back. I say that after my 100+ mile boat ride out into the Gulf of Mexico with one of the Classic contenders!! ;D
