Could someone tell me what the required safety equiptment is for fishing in Canadian waters....(it is a 20'multi-species boat with a outboard eng. on it.   Is it the same as US Coast Guard requirements?  thanks steve

They normally honor our regulations but they have been tightening things up lately so it always pays to check their requirements. I assume you are just driving over for the day. If you stay for a very extended trip (45 or 60 days) you have to get their new boaters certificate.

Most of this was covered earlier in the year on this forum so if you do a search on the forum you can usually find a lot of this stuff without having to search the whole Internet.

I think the links you need are here: http://www.greatlakesbass.com/forum/index.php?topic=10179.msg69293#msg69293

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Do NOT bring a flare gun.

I'm actually getting conflicting reports on that the past two years. I have had several Ontario agents tell me flare guns are not guns. I couldn't find anywhere in their regulations that contradicted that either. Just to be safe, I stay away from them but they actually mention the rocket launcher flares on their boating website.
