Hi Everyone,

New to the forum and very first post.

I will be in Alpena the first week of July and have heard that Thunder Bay and the surrounding Lake Huron waters in the area have some good smallmouth fishing.  I am not looking for any specifics, just any general information or experience that anyone might have for fishing this area, that they are open to share.

Thank you,

Wags

Firefighter Jeff

Welcome to the site !!!!!  Sorry, but I am unable to help.  I did fish Thunderbay years ago, but it was in the fall after a major cold front and it was terrible fishing.  :(

Rock bars to the North of the river mouth. Shallow. Be careful. When the smallies are there, they are big and dumb. They are on some of the shallower wrecks too. Many of the wrecks are marked. Large bay to the South a ways that can be good. I haven't fished that one myself so I don't know about the rocks or when the bass are most likely to be in there.

Lots of beautiful looking water with few or no smallies but when you find them, you find a good bunch of them.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.  I like big and dumb.  Time to put the time in and find em.

Let us know how you do. Watch out for salmon! :)
