Been searching around for my first baitcast combo. Although I have pretty much made a decision on a st croix rod, probably legend i'm still searching for a reel. I keep coming back to the shimano curado. I like the feel and brand name and online reviews are good. I just don't always trust them. Any input? Although this is my first baitcast combo, I have used them in the past and would rather pass on junk or something that will last a year or just not be happy with. Thanks

Team houston

Can't go wrong with a Curado. I own many.

t-bone

I own a bunch of the Curados but I'd buy the Chronarchs now after the redesigns - they are more similar to the older Curados. I purchased one new Chronarch this year and it is a really solid reel.

I usually buy the Citica which is just a hair below the Curado and I love them.  I think I probably would have stopped fishing baitcasting reels by now, but the ease of use and quality on the Shimano baitcasters are hard to beat.  Plus they're smaller profile so they really fit well with my smaller hands.

Waterfoul

I have several of the older style Curado's and love them.  As was mentioned, the new Chronarch is closer to the older Curado as far as build is concerned.  But, the new Curado is a GREAT reel, and if I had to buy a bunch of new ones I would have no problem with them.  The only reel I own that compares to my Curado's is a Revo Premier... but they are a lot more money than a Curado.
Addicted to fishing.  All the time, any species, anywhere!!  Especially in West Michigan!!!

HellaBass

Curados are solid as ever, got handfuls of them

Mojo

This may be your first, but it wont be your last. Get a Curado to set your standard.....

For the money, both of the Accurist PTs ($149) I own cast and feel like liquid. Ive only have them a year or two so I cant comment on their longevity, but I put em right with my Revo STXs ($189). Soooooo. when you look for your spinnerbait baitcster, and your shallow cranking stick baitcaster etc .... keep these in mind.
Thanks Dan for bringing year round Catch and Release to Michigan

BIGSHOW

Looks like this may be the one. Now to shop around and see if I can find a deal. Amazon looks like the cheapest.

I love my Curados and stocked up when they released the new model and clearanced the old ones.  I have several of the 200E models and they have never let me down.  They are by far the best reels available in the $130-180 range and overall one of most reliable (longevity, accuracy, spool control, etc.).

By far my all-time favorite combo is a St. Croix Legend 70MHF paired with a Curado 200E7.  I love fishing that combo!

Lightningboy

Shimano Curados are kinda the chevy/ford truck of the baitcast world.  Kinda hard to go wrong.  I've got two of the old green ones that have countless miles of line cranked through them.  I like the 5:1 ratio for crank baits.

Although for soft plastics, jigs, or any kind of pitching, I like the Japanese version, the scorpion.  Not as much line capacity, but much smoother for short range work.

I wouldn't be afraid to buy used Curados either.  They're kinda hard to kill.

BIGSHOW

That was another question I had was the ratios. What are good ratios for the different type of fishing? I would like this one for crank/spinnerbaits. Another thing that is kind of redundant but the color kinda sucks on the curados. Seems like they could have came up with something better than that...

BIGSHOW

Went up to cabelas to buy a curado today. Was disapointed when they didn't have the model I wanted. So after brousing and 800 bucks later I got a shimano stratic ci4 spinning reel with a st croix tournament legend rod and other stuff. The bad part is now I still need a new baitcaster. So my search is on. The weird thing about the baitcaster that I found is most have the crank on the right. Now that just makes no sense to cast with your right hand put the rod back to the left and crank with the right? Am I missing something. The one I use is on the right, but it is totally uncomfortable. I would think you would want the rod in your dominant hand. Most people being right... Back to the drawing board..

Bigshow go on the Bass Boat Central website and go to the reels for sale section you can usually find good deals on used and new reels. They also have a rod section also. I have bought rods and reels from other fisherman on there and never had a problem. Click on the BBC boards to get started.

Hey BIGSHOW,

Most right-handed fisherman I know reel with their left hand with spinning reels & right hand with baitcasters but it really boils down to what you're comfortable with. I bought a Mojo spinnerbait rod paired with a Shimano Citica from my brother who just didn't want to learn how to use the baitcaster. The reel is new and hasn't been used much at all. The handle is on the left side which is awkward for me. I'll give you the reel at no charge, just send me your address. I really like Shimanos & have used them for many years & own several Curados & Citicas. The newer Citicas are great reels and I can't tell much difference from the Curados in overall performance. Besides, you can't beat the price! Let me know if you want it & it's all yours.

That would be great. I sent my info by personal message. I really appreciate it. @ Erie 660 I am signed up for BBC. I never have seen the part where reels are for sale. That is a real good site. It would be a full time job to keep up on all these sites. I try to get on as much as I can. I'm learning.

I believe the fishig gear that is for sale is at the very bottom section of the message boards.  :)

Found the fishing gear. Alot of cool stuff. I noticed some of the rods and reels were won in tournaments and people just want to off them. My wife is really gonna love me now
