Did anyone fish this past weekend?

I fished both Saturday and Sunday, and I am here to tell you that after grinding out a miserable two days (of weather) fishing the Huron Valley Bass Championship on Pontiac and Belleville, I am looking forward to hunting next weekend.

Anyone else ready to chase some white tails instead of green/brown fish?

If I get something with white on the tail, it might be a walleye. This is my favorite time of the year to fish so I hope to make up for a lackluster summer with a few extra days. More room for you in the woods. Good luck!

Had venison for dinner last night from a doe that my son took with his crossbow. Saw two does and four fawns tonight and heard a bunch of coyotes. Seems to be a lot of them this year. Shot the crossbow several times today to make sure it was right on. within an inch at 28 yards.
Also used the Basscat this year to jig for king salmon and caught a bunch. Canned a little over three dozen jars of salmon. Had ten pounds smoked. I even canned some of the smoked salmon this year. Some guys were telling me if you want to preserve it smoked that canning is better than freezing . We'll see. Haven't tried it yet.
With the price of boneless, skinless chicken at the local grocery store at $1.88 a pound, I bought a bunch and canned four dozen pints of chicken. Betting that the drought affecting the price of corn will cause the price of chicken and beef to go way up. I can venison most years as well.

I know I sure look forward to hunting season. It lets me have the lakes around here pretty much to myself.

I am chomping at the bit to get in the woods.  Been layed up with a fungal infection in both feet, and I feel like I've been sitting with my feet up for way to long now.  I was kinda worried I wouldn't be able to hunt this year, but my feet are finally starting to get back to normal.

Deer hunting has always been an annual event for me since I grew up in Northern MI.  I was shocked when I moved down here and found out everyone didn't get Nov. 15 off from school.   

These days Deer season has become even more of an event for me.  My wife and son both work retail, so they can't ever have thanksgiving off.  Instead, we all go up north for deer season.  Me, wife, son, daughter, and father-in-law all go to Alpena for 5 or more days.  Me, son & daughter hunt, wife and father-in-law hang out.  Kinda turns into our relaxing Thanksgiving.  Throw in all my cousins being in town, and it's quite the family event.

Redneckin' off the gravel for a few days, long quiet sits in the woods to think life over, having a few unplanned adventures, it all kinda recharges me. 

My father-in-law doesn't hunt, and is a catholic deacon.  As he told me, it's my version of a "retreat". BTW, he likes the trip too.  He likes the fact that only sunrise and sunset matter, do what you feel otherwise.

Ken, sure is good to hear from ya!  Sorry to hear you been laid up.  I know how ya feel, as I had surgery on my right foot three weeks ago to correct plantar faciatis and a heel spur.  I was laid up for ten days, and it still hurts, but I am getting by and plan to hunt this weekend no matter what! 

The foot will probably keep me from hanging  a treestand, but that is what groundblinds are for.

I have been hunting on skeg for birds and trolling my way back to the launch for them big romanin muskies. Kinda like the 59# that came outa Bellaire 2 weeks ago on a minnow N hook of all things.


On the bright side. I have scared the beegessus outa a few guys in the Torch river when they flush birds at me

Hey bigjc, good to hear from you too.  I've been idle for way too long now.

Got diagnosed at the start of September with vesicular athlete's foot, what they used to call jungle rot.  Too young to go to 'nam, but got the disease.   

Started to get better, but then had an allergic reaction to one of my drugs.  My feet didn't just swell; I had durn cankles!  Darn happy to say I can fit into a pair of shoes again.

I know my medical problems aren't exactly fishing stuff, but I think it's good for everyone to know that this started one night in late August, when I was wearing a new pair of flip flops, and got my feet wet at the ramp putting the boat in.  Had a little blister on the arch of each foot when I got home that night.  End result several weeks later was raw, swollen feet I could barely walk on.  Keep those feet dry, and treat any foot injury, no matter how minor, to prevent infections.  You don't realize how much your feet do for you until you don't have them for a while.
