Has anyone tried one of these? http://dig-in-anchors.com/ I'm thinking about trying the motor mount version. Just wondering how well they keep you put when bed fishing. I doubt it works as well as a powerpole but the cost is a lot less.

Saw that last fall when I was in Fla. It is big for the flats boat guys.   I did some research and found the fiber glass rod at http://www.mgs4u.com/fiberglass-tube-rod.htm.  When I called to order the guy asked if I was building a boat anchor.  Guess I was not the first to call.
I made a mount out of PVC that clamped to my trolling motor shaft.  It holds great except if it is really windy.  The bow is points into the wind when you are fishing.  I got the 8 foot rod which stores nice in the locker.

Thanks for the info. How did you make the pvc bracket? Also, what is the right size pole outer diameter to get? Thanks again for the tip. ~ Len B.

I got the ¾ inch fiberglass rod 8 feet long.  Probably get 10 foot if I had to do it over.  With it mounted on my Ranger it works  great in 5 feet of water.  For the mount I started with a 1 ½ PVC T.  I cut the out side to fit the shaft on my TM. I used hose clamps to attach it. I used a reducer to 1 inch for the extension.  The extension ended up being 7 inches.  On the end I  used a 1 inch T.  I put the 1 inch PVC pipe inside and cut it off.  That gives you an opening a little less that 1 inch for the rod to slide in.  I put a T on the end of the rod to keep it from falling through. I sanded the tip down to a point. Didn't seem to wear much.   With it mounted on the front the boat you get down wind of where you want to anchor.  If there is a little wind it keep you pointed straight ahead.  I only used it in the spring for bed fishing.  If you decide to build one check and see if anyone else wants one.  The shipping was almost what the rod costs.  You can get 2 or 3 for the same shipping price.  I think I had about 50.00 in the whole thing.  Not as cool as a power pole but it works.  Here are a couple photos I shot.
