So what's it gonna be?? I know CuradoKev has said something about this in his newsletter, but i just wondered what everyone thought. The past couple years the "breakout bait" has been the chatterbait, the senko, the sweet beaver...so what's it going to be this year? After seeing some video of the bait, I'm gonna have to go with Doug Hannon's Snake bait. The action of this bait is insane! I think the big ole Florida bass would love to see this swimming across the water.

When I was a kid, I actually used a bait very similar to that snake ... that was so long ago I barely even remember.

Basically, it had a hard (like a Mann's hard nose) head with the hook molded into it.  You simply tied "the head" on your line and then you had about an 8 inch snake body/tail that you threaded on Texas style so you could change/replace them ...  I used to get some toads in the pads with that thing ...

Now that I think back, why did I ever stop throwing that thing?  ???  I used to catch some toads ... closest bait now is a tiki-snake, but it doesn't have the "permanent" head.

Great - Another bait I will buy 14 bags in 5 different cololrs of that will sit in the bottom of my boat until next Fall ...

Of all the new products I've seen, I'd have to say the Evolution Jig (ICAST 2006 winner for best lure).  Definitely a different design...with the number of BIG fish caught on a jig every year, I'm sure someone, somewhere will catch a couple pigs on it in a big tourney somewhere and it will be sold out in no time...

I own and fished a few evolution jigs...They are ok, but not for grass. The head is almost "square" and good for dragging hard bottom or fishing rock.

Nothing in a bait sticks out right now, trend going to swimbaits in the east and wooden cranks are getting a little more attention. Mainly because there are more producers of wooden cranks now.

I don't think a jig or crankbait will fit this category. Too much variety already. I don't know what I think about this bait yet, although I own a couple: the swimsenko would be my bet. I haven't used them yet, but they're quite different from everything else which would help them win this heated contest.  ;D

Duke,
It is funny you mention the swiminsenko because I just bought a set of them from Gary yammoto web site and they look very different. Over Christmas break I caught some huge pike on them so can't wait to get them in grass and structures to see how Bass like them. Just fyi I texas rigged them.
Your either getting better or worse you never just stay the same

Duke

What was the action like kgr624? Were you swimming it? What did it do when you let it fall? Was the action like a normal senko?
Duke

kgr624

they actually have flat tails so they swirl when You swim it and then when it falls it swirls down. IT has great action and I think will be a great bait for spawn. I also heard you can use a shaky head technique on these and they work pretty good.

$5.00  a pop for the evolution jig, and I bet the pointers are about $20 or more. Looks like that Cabellas better open up over here on the westside so I can get a job there and buy baits at a discount.
