hey guys, got a new 7 ft mh st. croix spinning rod and am putting a quantum pti 30 on it. already have an older 6 ft spinning rod with a smaller reel with 8 lb cxx on it. my question is- should i put 10 lb mono or florocarbon on it? was thinking of using it for my tube rod and the smaller one for jerkbaits and a grub rod. have a medium 7 ft lightning rod with a pinnacle  reel on it with 15 lb powerpro- casting rod and a 6-6 rod with the other casting reel on that, so what do you think i should do ? thanks again for your help..karol

7' MH rod will support somthing like 8lb to 17lb test line.  If you are going to use it for tubes or bottom dragging baits I would Fluorocarbon for sure.  I think you get better feel and better hook sets with Fluro.  You would even move up in line size using Fluoro due the low vis properties.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Even my wife made a comment that it is all she hears about on fishing shows is Flourocarbon..she got me a couple spools of it for x-mas...I think I am going to have to keep her.

The quantum size 30 reel can handle almost any line you'd use on a spinning reel.  I will have 8 size 30 quantums on my boat this year, very versatile.  You can even use the reel light line if you have some mono backing to take up space.  I would say 10lb florocarbon is the best set up for tube fishing around rocks.  If no rocks you can get away with 8lb, and get a little more casting distance.  By the way, the Kevin Vandam quantum reels that bps sells are the same reel as the catalyst as far a I can tell.  They perform the same and last just as long.  They should be on sale for $59.99 at the spring classic, I already got a few at that price.

What ever you do... do not listen to these guys! I just hope I'm not too late.
You are being set up by all these guys with a really sick sense of humor.

What they really needed to tell you was that putting that new St. Criox rod together with the Quatum real is extremely dangerous! There had been reports of that combination spontaneously combusting. There's even a disabled fishermans group that was founded by one gentleman to help support the victims who have lost limbs because of this deadly combination.

I have done insurmountable research on this subject and have found out how to diffuse the potential hazard. GENTLY put the rod and reel in a very secure package (so not to get bumped or damaged) and send it to me. I will make sure it can harm no one!

Just go back to using what you have, I'm sure the trusty old Lightning Rod will still pull em in for you.

My only hope is that this message gets to you in time.

And to all... let this be a warning!!!

If this has ever happened to you and you have sustained bodily harm... you are not alone. You can contact Anglers of Rod and Reel Malfunctions or ARRM.

Just ask for Lefty.  ;D

These KVD reels do not have PT bearing system or the titanium bail.

The 10lb flouro is the way to go for tubes, I would put some cheep mono backing on first, then about 40-50 yards of flouro though, saves some $ when respooling.
