In season, make sure you check out huge Black Friday and Holiday season savings on our special Black Friday / Holiday section! - www.greatlakesbass.com/blackfriday/

GreatLakesBass.com is free to you. I do my best to provide a fun, friendly place to swap stories and find out good information. I have a day job like most of you and maintaining this web site is another full time job for me - a fun job, but a lot of work.

I plan on continuing to improve the services and information here with some help, and will hopefully provide a lot more articles and resources to you over the winter, again all free. Besides the great deal of time in maintaining the site, there's also monetary costs to provide the site.

I'm hoping that if you do enjoy coming here and using the site, you will consider helping when you can - many of you do already to a great extent by participating on the forum and such - thanks!

I do not plan on doing as some sites do and ask for a paid membership for the functions already here. Advertising is important and you also help by continuing to come here while telling others about GreatLakesBass.com. Of course, the NUMBER ONE way you can support this web site is to please, please always consider and give a chance to the companies who make this site possible - they are on the advertisements you see on the site and the companies listed on the GreatLakesBass.com Sponsors page - www.greatlakesbass.com/fishing/glbsponsors.html - Please consider supporting these companies whenever you can so we can keep growing.

But there is another way you can help GreatLakesBass.com quite a bit without costing any more money out of your pocket. That is by starting any of your online shopping by going through the shopping links here. We sometimes have online specials not otherwise available. If you are thinking about ordering something from Basspro.com for example, please come here first and click on the Basspro graphic on most pages, or from the shopping page. You will pay the same price as if you went directly to Basspro.com, but a small commission comes to GreatLakesBass.com from your purchase.

If you are already going to order from stores such as Amazon.com, Basspro.com, Cabelas.com, GanderMountain.com, WestMarine.com, Boatersworld.com, Walmart.com among others, or thinking about it, clicking one of their graphics or text links from GreatLakesBass.com is all you have to do to help keep things growing and improving here. I have graphics that pop up for them at the top and left, and graphics or text links at the right and bottom you can use, along again, with the shopping page page.

Pretty simple and no additional cost for you; a huge help to GreatLakesBass.com! Please consider this whenever you plan on online purchases or are even window-shopping for deals.

To provide you with some benefits to use the affiliate links here, I've contracted for a few additional services that you might find helpful:

Save money - view the latest Basspro.com online coupons and price drops available on this page. Check often for deals.

Save money - view the latest Boatersworld.com online price drops and deals available on this page. They usually have a lot of great deals.

Here's a great way to comparison shop - you can search and compare Basspro.com & BoatersWorld.com together ? you?ll see prices for the same items for both stores so you can pick the best deal when they both sell the same product.

If you want to just browse the entire Basspro.com and Boatersworld.com catalogs on GreatLakesBass.com, you can browse Basspro.com on this page and Boatersworld.com on this page. You won't leave GLBass.com unless you click on a purchase or more info link on a product.

If you save BIG on any of the zillions of products available on Amazon.com, I now have a GreatLakesBass.com amazon.com store where you can shop for any of their great variety of products here. You name it they probably sell it. Amazon.com even sells groceries now! You can often find the best prices for anything there!

If you see anything of interest, buying products from the GreatLakesBass.com store or Cafepress apparel store helps some also.

I have a selection of good fishing books featured on the start page and also on my affiliates page - so if you are thinking about buying a fishing book or DVD, please check the affiliates page  or the store first.

Use these links when you are going to shop or order anyway and you do a lot to keep GreatLakesBass.com up and growing. Thanks!

Dan,

I don't know if there's any legal issues with this, but what if we turned the GLB Opens into a charity for maintaining the web site?

The money involved is still nothing that would make anybody retire off of, and they would still accomplish the main goal. That is meeting the people we communicate with on-line and the bragging rights for one year.

I personally think that it might stem more involvement if everone knew it was to help keep things going.

To everyone reading, please let me know what you think.

dartag

good idea.  even if you only take 40-45 % like most other trails do.

bshaner

Excellent idea!  It's not like the entry fees are outrageous or anything.  I'd even be willing to donate the fee for the day and let Dan come up with tangible prizes to go along with the year's bragging rights.  He could keep all my money for the site as far as I'm concerned.   Better him than PB or Josh or somebody getting my money.

My goal for the DK Open's is to keep them about where they are for entry and payback unless a large majority of members ask for a change. It is mainly for the chance to meet, get to know each other and have a good time fishing for fun bragging rights.

My goal for the Web site is to have the advertising and affiliate revenue cover the costs, promotional ventures and allow a budget for contest prizes and DK Open giveaways and minor costs such as the permit fee too (which may go up next year, but we'll cross that bridge when we have to).

Some of the prizes will be donated by sponsors and parties interested in having our members use or see their products. As the site grows, this will hopefully continue to improve, and your participation and word-of-mouth helps that greatly.

Again, I don't want to ask for donations or take a cut of the tournament - I don't want to take anything out of your pockets - your participation is already given so well - when the opportunities exist to get a little advertising revenue and small commissions from sales that don't cost you any more than you would already be spending if you buy online from one of the affiliate vendors through a link on GreatLakesBass.com.

I'd like to keep GreatLakesBass.com basically free to members and visitors - the only costs to you will be if you buy a product that you really want from one of my stores, or you time spent posting here or linking to an affiliate through here when you purchase. It can work out very well for all of us that way. Thanks for your participation and very nice suggestions.

If the girl in the middle with the mustache is a Hooter's girl then maybe it isn't a good idea to include have Hooter's as a sponsor. :o   I see nothing tasteful about that mustachiod broad.  Matter of fact she looks like my long lost Greek aunt.  Maybe not though. My aunt had more hair on her face......... :o

DJ just an idea if you move the tourny to a private ramp you do not need a permit. and i know of a couple that you could use . plus there is camping there and a couple of cottages that are avaliable to help on the travel cost. the only cost would probably be a launch fee but i might be able to get that to about 2 dollars a boat and there is plenty of parking. plus i might also be able to get a couple of rods to give away. Since I am the only rep in the midwest for phoenix blade rods. If i can help in anyway just email me at macbass0012@yahoo.com. plus being i live close to lansing just give me a shout

I'll keep this in mind. I'm kind of waiting to see how the latest MDNR permit process goes. Something I have to get back on top of - want to try to keep permit costs realistic for small events and clubs.

Regardless, I would love to have more nice things to give away to GreatLakesBass.com members at the events.

Durand Dan

I know I'm supporting Great Lakes Bass. I just recieved my new prop I bought from Bass Pro which I accessed though this site

djkimmel

Hey - I've always liked Durand! A lot! Thanks so much! I'm in the process of moving to a bigger home very soon for GLB so every bit helps. Don't want a repeat of the recent downtime if I can help it.

Thanks Durand Dan. Glad to have you here. I really do appreciate it. See you at the Lansing show maybe?
