I have a tournament on Lake Charlevoix on Sept. 14th.  Never fished it and will not have any time to pre-fish.  Anyone have any hints?  I believe we'll be launching from East Jordon.

I'm not looking for waypoints (unless you want to share them!) but rather some general information.  I would assume a fall type bite and I can fish that way, but what to look for would be a big help.  Weed patches?  Rocks?  Pilings?  Flats or the drop offs?

Anyway, thanks for anything you might offer.

Can you fish in the East Bay out into lake Michigan???  Are you launching down into East Jordan or the Ramp by the Ferry.....Unless things have changed the Ramp at East Jordan isn't very good...

I really struggle on Lake Charlevoix in the Summer....I know guys that have done well right where the North and South arm come together off from that point in deep water dragging tubes....Lots of Gravel and Rocks there...

I have caught decent fish in the weeds north of East Jordan also working drop offs and breaks.....It's been a tough for me to put anything consistent together though....

Some guys catch the heck out of them up there in the summer....Not me though.. ;D

Launching near the narrows I believe.

Thanks for the information.

I think that is Hemingway Point? Major bass attractor but I think more bass live around the flats and drop off out from the state park to Horton Bay than about anywhere else in the lake. I've caught them along those edges shallow and deep from May until October.

In September you can catch bass in 6 feet of water, maybe less, and 45 feet of water. Lots of food choices in the lake. The South Arm is okay if the competition isn't fierce because the darker water keeps some bass shallower (there are even a few green bass hiding down there) - topwater, jerkbait, crankbait and probably your old drop shot. There's usually some weeds in the South Arm and fish like weeds.

I've done well that time of year a few times at the iron plant. Far as I know it's still there - discharge just out from shore - the current attracts walleye and bass. There's always bass there when I've been there in the past though at times they are well trained and devious. One of my old 'secret' spots.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

We rented a condo on the S. Arm two summers ago around the end of August. I did alright with smallies on topwater directly in front of our condo and around the iron plant. There was a fair amount of weeds & submerged wood. I caught that fat largie in my avatar pic on a senko off one of the few docks on the west side of the S. Arm just north of the city campground. I also caught my first and only seagull on a Pop-R fishing from the condo dock. It didn't make for very good viewing for my wife and a few other renters who were on there decks trying to enjoy there morning cup of coffee.

Where is the iron plant?  In East Jordon or in Ironton?
