Vote yes on 1 and 2.  Keep the making of decisions for hunting and fishing where they should be, with the NRC and based on Science.

This message has not been approved by the Humane Society.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Very short version:
Vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2!

Slightly longer version:
Vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2! Don't be anti-hunting, anti-fishing!

Longer version - edit it as you see fit:
In 1996 63% of Michiganders voted for Proposal G to continue supporting scientific management through the Natural Resources Commission – formed in 1922 to keep emotions and other harmful decision-making from damaging our important natural resources. This law, along with Public Act 21 of 2014, was passed because radical animal rights groups and persons tried the same tactics on our bears that they are using now with our wolves. The Humane Society of the United States (H$U$) is using false information about Michigan wolves to attack our entire, longstanding support for scientific management of Michigan fish, wildlife and our natural resources. This is not about wolves. This is about being anti-hunting, anti-fishing or supporting sound, scientific management of our natural resources.

H$U$ – a Washington DC-based radical animal rights group – is trying to mislead the Michigan public with their millions in assets into believing they are trying to protect a few wolves when their real target is to get your money and to make it easier for them to attack other hunting and fishing methods in the future. H$U$ assets are built on the backs of people who believe they are donating to a real humane society. H$U$ is NOT a humane society. They are NOT affiliated with local pet shelters or real local humane societies.

In fact, H$U$ only gives 1% of the money they raise to animal shelters. A whopping 63% of the money H$U$ raises with their images of pets is spent on raising even more money. Millions more are spent on staff and payouts to allies and settling lawsuits. The primary work of H$U$ is raising money, followed by ending ALL hunting and fishing, and ALL pet ownership because they believe all living creatures should have rights equal to humans. If you give money to H$U$ you are NOT helping your local animal shelters. You are supporting the ending of ALL hunting, fishing and pet ownership.

H$U$ says hunters, anglers and state legislators are trying to take away your right to vote on animals, calling us special interests. But we are Michiganders like you! We are the long time stewards of our natural resources willingly funding 92% of the MDNR annual budget through license and user fees. H$U$ is the radical animal rights group from Washington DC that gives only 1% of their money to a few local pet shelters while pushing their radical agenda across the United States with no regard to the harm their policies would have on natural resources management, Michigan jobs and business, and your fellow Michigan hunters and anglers, or even to the harm their diversion of money that could be donated to local pet shelters has on the local true humane societies that never receive this money.

If you want to help pets and local animals please give directly to your local humane societies and pet shelters so all of your money is used for that purpose (not just 1 penny on the dollar). If you want to protect Michigan's natural resources because you are NOT an anti-hunting, anti-fishing person please vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2, and let science continue to manage our natural resources not radical animal rights people. No votes only make it easier for H$U$ to continue taking people's money away from local animal shelters, and easier for H$U$ to mislead people through false advertising campaign agendas to end all hunting, all fishing and all pet ownership.

Vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2 to protect our Michigan natural resources! Vote YES on Proposals 1 and 2 to show your support for sound scientific natural resources management good for all Michigan fish and wildlife! Please don't be an anti-hunter. Please don't make it easier for a false humane society to misdirect money away from animal shelters towards an anti-fishing, anti-hunting radical animal rights agenda. Meet the real H$U$ at www.humanewatch.org.

Thanks for the website link Dan. My wife is one of those that has donated $ in the past and only sees the cute animals on the slick charity sheets that show up in our mailbox without truly understanding what the HSUS is really all about. Just spent some time on the website and talking to her about the importance of voting yes on the proposals.

Great! I hope it works. I have 1 family member in the extended part who won't come around. It's hard to accept that someone (or something) you like might not truly be the good friend they've led you to believe they are. Luckily, most of the people I know are not anti-hunting and have accepted what I say as true instead of the stuff H$U$ is shoveling.

And the H$U$ is shoveling a lot of bullsh*t these days............Thanks Dan again for all your hard work to get the message out.  Vote "YES" on Proposals 1 & 2.  I'm UAWBigDog and I approve this message.   ::)   My wife was a tough sell on this as she is big on Humane Societies.  I explained to her that there is a difference to H$U$ and the Michigan Humane Society, although not too much.  However, when we got into the "meat" of these Proposals and the fact that the H$U$ only donates 1% of their charitable income to animal shelters, along with the fact that they don't want you to own pets, she was convinced.  I think the icing on the cake was if I can't fish, I'm going to be around the house bugging her all the time.  And we simply can't have that.   8)    So she got the message and is voting "YES".  Also, my 20 year old daughter is voting "YES" also.  She loves to fish and I took her and her boyfriend out on St. Clair a few times this year.  He had never been fishing and when we got into some hefty smallies, he was hooked.  He is now bugging her more to go fishing with her Dad.  I told him that he can go with me anytime even if she doesn't want to.  So as an ambassador to our sport, I hooked another one.  He's voting "YES" as well.

Good job and keep doing whatever it takes to keep our bass fishing way of life growing!

I'm encouraging more people it they want to give to local animals or help our natural resources to give to local real animal shelters and/or buy hunting and fishing licenses. Not enough people understand where giving is effective for their beliefs verses where they giving is used (in the case of H$U$) for something else entirely.

I don't think that is exactly true, it just complicates things for the time being.

Moot Wolf Hunting Proposals Defeated, Will Continue Under Citizen Initiative Passed in August

LANSING—As expected, two laws that originally allowed wolf hunting were defeated through today's moot referendum vote following a one-sided political ad campaign from the anti-hunting Keep Michigan Wolves Protected group, which is primarily financed by Washington, DC-based Humane Society of the United States. However, a citizen-initiated law passed in August will take effect in March and restore the authority of the Natural Resources Commission to name game species using sound science – including wolves – regardless of today's vote.

"The results were about what we expected," said Drew YoungeDyke, public relations manager for Michigan United Conservation Clubs. "HSUS spent millions on misleading political ads and flyers to take away hunting rights, but the citizen initiative we passed in August protects those rights. I'm sure HSUS's donors will be glad to know they spent $1.5 million on what's essentially a public relations poll, money that could have gone to local animal shelters."

Proposal 14-1 was a referendum on Public Act 520 of 2012, which originally added wolves to the game species list. Proposal 14-2 was a referendum on Public Act 21 of 2013, which authorized the Natural Resources Commission to add game species and issue fisheries orders, and made hunting and fishing licenses free for active military members. Both were put up for referendum by the HSUS-funded Keep Michigan Wolves Protected, but in a quirk of Michigan's ballot process, it was a "yes" vote that would keep the laws.

"We encouraged our members to vote 'yes,' but we didn't spend any advertising money on the proposals because we'd already won the issue by passing the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act," said YoungeDyke. "Next, I expect the anti-hunters to throw a lawsuit at it, but they won't win based on the title-object clause of the Michigan Constitution. The object of that law is, as the title says, to make fish and wildlife management decisions on the basis of sound scientific fish and wildlife management, and that's exactly what it does."

Even if the proposals had been approved, there would not have been a wolf hunt in 2014. Department of Natural Resources officials announced earlier this year that there would not be enough time to put together a hunt based on sound science between now and the end of the year. Once the Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act takes effect in March or April, the DNR will be able to examine the science to put together a proposal for a possible 2015 wolf hunt.

Founded in 1937, Michigan United Conservation Clubs is the country's largest state-specific conservation nonprofit organization. Its mission is to unite citizens to conserve, protect and enhance Michigan's natural resources and outdoor heritage.

We were already under a few months delay to complete the bass season work. You can still help. I'll share how.

The 2014 wolf hunt was already canceled. The NRC gets their full authority back in a few months. Wolves are still a game species. If it is still necessary and scientifically supported there will be a wolf hunt in 2015 because the proposals votes were nullified by the August passing of our Citizens' Initiative Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

H$U$ will still attack us anyway and they now know how gullible and confused lots of Michigan voters are or can be madw. That means money in the bank to H$U$. We need to make sure they do not get a majority of anti-hunting supporting state legislators.
