anybody use an under lid system? these things look like potato chip clip strips, I like the idea but I wonder how well they hold bags of plastics.

Revtro

I have the same concern.  I just can't see them holding onto the bags when getting beat up on St. Clair or Erie.

I have no experience with these systems, but since we are talking about tackle storage, I would like to share this tip I found on a different site. I have been thinking about extending my rear deck, removing the seats and building two storage areas (its a fish/ski so I have an extra row of seats and not much storage). I was looking at some of the different drop in tackle divider bins you can buy from Bass Pro for organizing the plastic tackle boxes. I figured there had to be an easier and much cheaper way of doing it.

I found this tip on a different site and think its a great idea.  Just pick up a couple of Desktop Storage Racks from a home office place, they sell for like 11 bucks.  See below for pics of the storage rack and how the guy mounted them in the storage compartment.

Looks like a good way to add a little extra space for Plano boxes.  Add a mounted bungee cord to hold them in place and I think it would work on bigger water.  I have enough room for storage on my boat, but I have to admit, I'd carry more soft plastics if I could.

BTW - Another tip I started using: Whenever I'm at a store that has a photo department, I ask them for their clear throw-away film bottles.  (little plastic 35mm film bottles)  I use them inside Plano boxes for bullet weights, drop shot weights, swivels, snaps, split rings, small hooks, split shot, etc.  I label them with a Sharpie and wrap them in some clear packing tape to keep the marker from washing off.  Works great.  I had a Plano box with all this stuff empty in the bottom of my boat once because someone knocked it over when I had left it open.  It took me forever to pick it all up.  Never again.

I have also had problems with hooks getting rusty and terminal tackle getting knocked over accidently, so like revtro I went to the walmart pharmecy and asked if I could buy some of the prescription bottles, the pharmecist said I could just have them.  They had many sizes so I got an assortment of the exact sizes I needed, in all they gave me about 30. I had a bottle for every size tubehead, jighead, weight, and hook. I used the larger size for jigheads and tubeheads and smaller size for the hooks and weights. They fit perfect standing up in the deeper plano 3700, and I also marked them with a black permenant marker, did not use tape though maybe I will do that if it will rub off.

I use pill bottles too for larger stuff.  They work well.  Sharpie marker doesn't stay on smooth plastic very well when you handle with wet hands or when it's raining.  The tape will save you a lot of re-labeling.  I do the same on all my Plano boxes.  I label them with marker for easy identification in the tackle storage.  I use clear tape over those labels too.

If your worried about rust just add in some zinc washers.  Very cheap and they work.  I save of ton of room on my plastics with gallon ziploc bags, I use half the room I did with boxes.

Well, after a little searching I now have enough "clip strips" to do the underside of my forward storages. I checked my local party stores and they all had extras, cost so far =$.00!! They are all made with a hook on the top so I am going to have to cut that off and weld on some brackets so I can screw them into my lids.
I checked to see how well they held and 1 sheet of paper will tear before it will start to slide out of the bracket. I assume that bags will be just fine.

Revtro

I keep soft plastics in their original bags in a double wide Plano box.  Same dimensions as a 3700, but 4 or 5 inches thick.  Works well for me.  Great tip about the zinc washers.  I'll give it a try.

ANy chance of finding a few extras - I'd love to have a few as well.  I'll trade you for getting the welding done?

Hey Fowlmouth, I don't know if you fish big water much, but let us know how well that system works for you if you could.  I'd be really interested to know if they bags stay on when you hit the big chop.  Sounds like you could be onto a really nice solution.

I have hit a snag, my storage lids are too thin. I assumed they were double walled with some foam or something.  I don't want to drill holes all the way through, so I am now gonna have to find something plastic I guess. I need something that will glue up to my lid and I don't think the stell will work real well for that.

Langer

Maybe post some pictures of what you were planning to do, for a visual. Then someone here might be able to adapted that into something that could be glued to the lids. We could help you with the brainstorming process. (Engineer in me)

Fowlmouth,
You might want to try some two side tape. We use it where I work. It's made by 3m. It's called VHB tape. VHB stands for very high bond. It is a 2 sided foam acrylic tape with a 2 step prep for installation. We use it to bond steel and aluminum to...steel and aluminum. When done right it is an extremely effective way to join steel and aluminum together.

I think Graingers and McMaster-Carr carry it but it is expensive. We buy it in bulk and get a pretty good price break. Let me know if you want to try it. I could get it right away. We always have it in stock.

Has any one checked out the COOKS GOTO SYSTEM ??

Potter

I have an Easy View storage system.  It has the "chip clip" design.  The website may have some pictures of the bracket they use.  I put mine in with the 3M product and it works great.  The bags that your baits come in will be the only issue.  From my expierence Zoom bags hold up well.  Yum not so good.  I think I have some pics, if needed.

I use Cook's system and have all 16 slots filled with spinnerbaits/ buzzbaits and have never had a problem. I use the small screw that comes up from the inside lid and just screws in bottom lid on hatch. They have another screw that you can come thru the carpet on top deck and this goes thru both lids on compartment hatch(Ranger and most boats) and has a nut that you screw in on inside. The most my spinnerbaits can weigh is 16x 1/2oz= 8ozs where the bags would be much heavier.
