First off, this is not an add in any way and I'm not sponsored by Garmin.  But if you haven't had a chance to check out the new Garmin echoMAP units you should.  Garmin has come a LONG ways in the last 2 years, a lot of it due to input from guys like Scott Martin, Jason Christie, and Greg Hackney.  Their fish finders are spot on as good as anyone else's now and their down and side imaging is very impressive.  I had a chance to play with all of them at the GR fishing show and was very impressed.  Pricing is also very competitive.  You can get the echoMAP53dv with Lakevu maps and the transducer for $599.  The new Lakevu maps are also pretty good.  The echoMAP43 has all the same features in a smaller package for $299, making it one of the best bargains out there (prices are out of the brochure they gave me.)

Many of you know that I kind of have an "in" when it comes to electronics and I get to play with them all, and I'll say again that you owe it to yourself to check out the new Garmins if you are in the market for a new fish finder/gps combo.

I know, sounded like an add but I am just really impressed with these new units.  Go visit your local tackle shop that carries Garmin... Gander, Cabelas, Bass Pro, West Marine, Dicks, etc... and check them out.

Now let's go fishing since we can now LEGALLY do so!!  No more guilty by bass boat!!!!  Thanks Dan Kimmel!!

That's awesome.  I have been thinking about switching to Garmin.  The units seem more detailed and are cheaper than the others.  Thanks for the review.  I think that is the route I will go when I am ready.

Garmin units seem a little more intuitive to use for many people.  If you've ever used one of their auto GPS units you'll find the fish finders work very similar.
