Tube Jigs Questions

Hey Guys,

Couple questions:

1)  What size hook do you want on your 1/4oz tube jig for 3.5" to 4.0" fat tubes?  How about for 2.75 to 3.0 tubes?

2)  I wanna buy some tube jigs in bulk rather than paying $4 for 5 jigs.  Anybody have any recommendations?  Anyone from Ebay?  I bought a bag from someone a couple years back and just ran out.

3)  Is there anything fancy about eye angle or anything like that I need to consider?  Shank length?

Thanks for any info.

1a) Steve Clapper says 3/0 hooks are right for smallies and tubes. Hard to argue with him. I have tried 4/0 and 5/0 for bigger tubes and deeper water, big smallie hunting. I'm not sure I had an advantage over 3/0 in the end, but I keep experimenting.

1b) If you're mostly fishing big water and the chance for big smallies I would stick with 3/0, maybe 2/0 for lighter jigheads. You could go smaller hooks if you fish inland and rivers more often with lighter equipment.

2) One option might be calling Wayne at Xtreme Bass Tackle to see what he can do for bulk - 877-485-2223

3) 90 degree hooks have a different drop and are good for spot casting and hopping. 60 degree eyes come through weeds, rocks, drifting and dragging better overall with less snags. They may hook up a little better overall. I use both and the one thing I'm sure of is 60 degree snags rocks less. I like 60 degree also when I'm fishing right on the bottom (goby). I like 90 degree for swimming and hopping / snap-jigging.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I like a 3/0 or 4/0 hook.  Most tube jigs come with a 4/0 hook these days.

I also like a 60 degree eye.  I agree with Dan on the difference between 60 and 90 but I like 60 for most applications and they are easier to tie on today's laminated tubes.

For bulk check Wayne is a good or check with Dan at KMR Lures, kmrluredotcom or 616.560.9638
