With all the talk about using power pro braided line I went and bought myself some tonight.  I have been an old school mono guy, and have just caught onto fluoro the last couple of years.  When I spool up this braided line do I need to put a backer down first, and also do I need to use a knot to tie the braid to the backer, or can I just put some backer down and then put the braid over the top?  Thanks in advance for any input.

I have heard that braid can slip on the spool if there is no backing line, also it save some $ only using as much line as you will need. I use mono as a backer and tie it with a double uni knot since that blood knot is too tough for me.

I back with any old mono I have laying around.
I put on enough braid to cover about two cast lengths.

I also use a uni tdo uni knot, and then a drop of superglue.  Probably don't need the super glue. But the fish of a life time.......

i've only had the problem on a spinning reel, but you should back it with maybe 50' or so mono. I just use some cheap stren or something... 15lb on my baitcasters, 8 or 10 on spinning. Use a uni knot to connect the braid and mono.

I run Power Pro on ALL my baitcasters... backed with about 20 yards or so of mono and tied onto the Power Pro with a uni to uni.

On the couple spinning rods I have it on I put 10-20 turns of the crank of mono on first.

I'd call that consensus!  Ditto here.  The cheap large spools of Excel from BPS is about the cheapest way to go for backer.
