I have a sump pump in the basement that I want to hook up a spare pump to. What I need to know can I hook a 12 volt sump pump to a deep cycle battery with a 1 bank charger plugged in and leave it that way all the time or will I toast the battery if hooked up all the time to the charger. I am getting tired of hand bailing when the power goes out.

Thanks
Bill

It sounds like the pump will only be running on rare occasions off the battery.  So, it should be just like your boat being in the garage on the charger.  You probably leave that plugged in all the time, and use the TM only when you go fishing, then plug it back in.  Assuming it is a decent charger that will charge, then only maintain, I think it should be fine.  But I am not experienced in this area and certainly not an expert by any means.

I agree with Eric.  I see no problem with this solution.  I would just make sure the charger isn't over charging the battery and there is plenty of ventilation.  The gas released when batteries are charging is very flammable!
