Despite the NE strong, cold wind and the threat of some rain, Derek said meet me at Lake Lansing in the morning and we'll try to catch some bass so I met him there. I had an appointment at 2pm so I could only fish until about 1pm but that's better than nothing.

Though the weather had me at times wondering what I was doing outside in the teeth of that chilly, wet-air wind! But despite a huge cold front and supposedly bad conditions for spring bass fishing I popped a decent keeper on one of my first casts with, you guessed it, the Kustom Kicker Jigs Deposit Spin Titanium Revolution!

A good start I call that. I felt a little tick on my line. Set the hook and had a decent bass on. A little while later I just missed another pike (on purpose). But we weren't catching them on this sand bar weed edge to we headed to another point and weedy drop.

Derek switched to a Nemesis Baits Bullet Craw (pigslayer) on a jighead and started catching lots of little bass. I tried a blade bait and could work it fairly well through most of the weeds, but no bites.

So I switched to a 1/4 oz Texas-rigged black-blue Bullet Craw. Only a few casts into the change I felt weight on my line, set the hook and had a nice solid keeper on. Only about 5 minutes later I felt which would make you think a bluegill had the tail of my Bullet Craw. I set the hook and landed another solid keeper!

I really like Bullet Craws... Derek caught a few more but the bite slowed again so we decided to hit another weedy point. On the downwind side we started getting spinnerbait baits from mostly bass and a couple pike. I caught a couple more on the Deposit Spin Titanium Revolution and Derek caught a few on a War Eagle Pro spinnerbait in a new color.

Then it was time for me to go. Derek says he caught a couple more keepers and lost a really nice bass at the boat after I left on spinnerbaits.

Notable on the day was it was a waterfowl day for sure with the wind, clouds and wet air. We saw 2 FLOCKS of cormorants, something we've never seen before on Lake Lansing, and quite a few diver ducks. We couldn't see well enough or get close enough to some of them to tell what they were but they were diving son of a guns! We did see a number of Buffleheads in small groups. I've seen more Buffleheads this year than I ever remember seeing in a spring before. So far I've seen them on every single lake I've been on which is also odd compared to past years.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
