I had so much fun the other day on Round Lake that I return 5 days later for a redo. Only things are way different. The weeds are almost gone and what is left is mostly brown and sickly. Weed killer is doing its work! Unfortunately.

I decided to start with the small Strike King KVD 1.5 shallow crankbait in green shad running it just over and through the tops of the weeds. It seemed to be a good move because I caught almost every bass all day long on this little crankbait.

Very shortly after I started casting the crankbait on the point I often start on I caught this small bass on it. An aggressive hit right away!

On the very next cast a nice keeper bass jumped all over the KVD 1.5 shallow crankbait. I caught another smaller bass like 2 casts later too before the bite on the small point tapered off. A good start to the morning.

Minutes later on a shallow weedline along a trough nearby this big bass just inhaled the KVD 1.5 shallow crankbait, jumping like mad as soon as I set the hook. I got one real quick picture and let it go fast because it inhaled the crankbait deep into the gills and was bleeding just a little. It swam off well hopefully ending up fine.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on the mood of the day and how you look at it) you can't throw shallow baits on Round Lake without running into dogfish somewhere along the way. I think I ended up catching 2 on this day with the shallow crankbait!

Maybe it was the overcast weather but though I switched lures around the bass like this small one just kept hitting the Strike King KVD 1.5 green shad crankbait!

Another small keeper whacks the same crankbait. You can see how gray and overcast it was on this day. As much as I love fishing crankbaits it made it hard to switch to other lures because I was having a lot of fun though the small pike were hammering the crankbait too and many more dink bass!

One more small keeper Round Lake largemouth bass falls for the crankbait before I call it quits for the day mid-afternoon. Any day I can catch a bunch of bass on crankbaits is a happy day.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
