I'm planning on fishing a 4 day weekend around the 4th of July.  Can I survive the boat traffic?  I can put up with a lot, but I don't want to drive 8 hrs if it's impossible.

The Canadian side of the lake is always less crowded and more natural seeming. The farther you are away from the Clinton River/Black Creek area, the Nautical Mile down around 10 Mile Rd and Gull Island / Muskamoot Bay, the less the extra traffic will bother you. The partiers are mostly interested in getting from the ramp to the party areas and back.

Early in the day may still be nice too. Mid-morning to late afternoon, things will get hairy around the above areas.

Some depends on the size of your boat and the comfort level you have with traveling on the big water?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

That is the time of year where the south shore in Ontario can be hot.  I would probably go out of St. Jeans in Detroit.  To spend a few days along that shoreline can be awesome.  I usually fish out of St. Jeans during that weekend.  And DK is right, there are a lot less boaters on the south shore.  Once you are out of the river and along the shoreline there are less.  The river will have traffic and watch out for the Wayne County Marine Patrol around Belle Isle.  See you out there.

I was out there Thurs-Sun, struggled a little, but did catch a few ok ones.  For future 4th of July weekends, can you give me some tips for that South shore fishing?  I assume you're talking about the side with the Belle River hump.  Thanks.
