Santa put a Hook 9 under the tree for me.  Let me know what you think about this graph.  Kinda new to this, only had an old school sonar unit before.  I plan on mounting it at the console of my 16ft boat on some sort of ram mount.  Is the lowrance maps ok to start with or should I upgrade.  I mostly fish inland lakes up north and a couple times a year venture out onto St. Clair, Detroit River, or Erie.  Thanks in advance.

Lucky you! Congratulations!

I would get a good map card when you can but I'm not sure at the moment which one is the best to try. I have a Lakemaster that is pretty good but not all lakes are on it. Might be one of the Navionics cards is a good one if they include enough of the inland lakes with some of Lake St. Clair - Erie. Not sure since I haven't used one recently. Someone else might pipe in.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Navionics HotMaps Platinum! I fish Lake St. Clair and many inland lakes here in Michigan. Always have a map for the lake I'm fishing. I think the map cards are in regions. You want EAST. You wil get lakes as far south as Tennessee and far east as Maine. Good luck.

Congrats on the upgrade.  I do not have a hook but I do have an elite up front in my boat.  I think they are good units and you should be impressed with what it can do.  I second the hot maps card  especially if your fishing the bigger lakes.  Also I believe with that unit you can also sign up for free for Insight Genesis where you can record data and create your own maps or get more detail on an existing one through the social maps.   So if there is a lake you fish a lot you can really dial it in.

I agree that a good map card is a MUST have.  You should be really happy with that unit.  9 is a great size unit.  Definitely make sure to get the proper RAM mount for it, don't use the 1" ball Ram mount on it.

Thanks for the feedback.  Now just have to get it installed and wait for the ice to melt.

Follow the transducer mounting instructions very carefully!    Transducer positioning is itical to proper sonar operation.
