The Gospel of Mark for Easter

As we head toward Easter, I'll be taking our church through the book of Mark.  I thought it would be cool because not only is Mark the shortest of the gospels, I think he offers a unique look into the person of Christ.  It seems that he really desired in his writing to help people see the real Jesus; not just a leader or teacher, but the Christ... the Son of God and savior of the world.  I used to only look at Mark as the shortest gospel, but the more I read, the more I realize it's so much more.  So if anyone's interested, try reading Mark from now to Easter and post comments about it as you go.

My initial thought from chapter one this week had to do with John the Baptist.  Ever wonder why Mark emphasizes how he dressed and what he ate?  I can't help but consider that maybe it's to show that John was an ordinary "Joe".  Yet God chose him to be the announcer of the coming Christ, as Isaiah prophesied.  I think that's pretty cool because I consider myself an average "Joe".  And I'm thankful every day that God would choose to use a flawed, imperfect guy like me to play a small role in His plan for the folks in my area.  It's very humbling and provides great hope to me that God can and will use ordinary people for His extraordinary purpose.

Flawed maybe... but with great ideas and suggestions. Thanks Revtro!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
