favorite ways to fish this time of year? slow..fast...dropshot anybody?

Bender

I have been fishing a lot recently and been having an incredibly tough time. I have tried a lot of different things from drop shot to topwater and everything in between without much luck. It seems like the bass are just not eating, but this is just my second year ever fishing this late. Last year jerkbaits worked around this time and I have also tried traps and blade baits.

I fish slow this time of year , dead-sticking senkos and shaky-heads are my favs. I'm not having a good fall either .

Durand Dan

I am normally using Rattle Traps, Silver Buddy imitations and Spinner baits with some success this time of year. However I am convinced that Bass have extended their migratory habits and have headed south for the winter early this year ;D

i fish for ducks with a gun this time of year.
however, i've been out 3 times - last saturday, and a couple weeks ago... i didn't even have a bite sat and have yet to catch a keeper in oct... maybe its where i was fishing........ ;D

Jerkbait.  Fished very slow.  Very small twitches and leave it for 10 seconds or more.

fished my lake saturday for a little bit before putting my boat away.  caught a couple smallies crusing the flats. they were really sluggish and just swam to the boat.   only thing that worked was a drop shot with a Nemisis goby ( no i am not on the pro staff,  paid cash for them  )  fished real slow.  did have a couple look at a suspending jerk bait but they swam away.  water was 48 degrees and crystal clear.

everything is now put away till spring.

McCarter

I am a jerkbait freak in the fall.  It seems to work on every lake i have fished this time of year.  But when they wont eat the jerkbait, i throw a small hair jig with a zoom little critter craw as a trailer.  And i dont move it much.

Anyway, throw some jerkbaits.  The Lucky Craft Pointer 100s are my favorite in the fall because they suspend the best and that seems to be what the fish want once the temps get into the high to mid 40s.  And if you get a warm sunny day, hit the flats with a trap or a shallow crankbait.

Just 3 words - Jig and Pig.  Either #11, or Jumbo pork ( when water gets below 55 degrees ).  Was 48 on Sat. on Portage Chain.     This is for Largeheads mainly.  Fish still not " ON " yet.  Should be great in the next week or so.
McCarter - went back and busted them after I left!!  Should have just stayed there all day.  Oh well.

Fall fishing is feast or famine deal in my eyes either, you get on a good deal or nothing. I fished twice this last week on 2 differnt lakes one was good the other was not so good. Im a big plastics fisherman so i really stick with stick baits and yami hula grubs alot. they catch fish all year! we got on a good deal saturday with smallies crushing baitfish. a fluke was really the deal and some on a Nemesis stick if you could get it to the blow up in time! really seemed like they were just slashing at the bait and trying to knock it silly than eat it! i really look for the baitfish in the areas that usually produce and thats where the fish are. some of the schools we found were in 30 ft. good luck this week should be good then i dont know the weathers going to crap. i (in nw indiana still got water temps in the middle 50's.-skeeterman-

The fish have been far and few. but it seems like the fish I do catch this time of year are good ones.

For me October is hit or miss. When I do fish and not on the stand I tend to prefer jig and pigs fished very slow. In fact caught the biggest largemouth I've ever caught in Mi, on the last friday in October in 04. However, come November I pretty much give up, it just gets to be so slow(although you can still catch fish) I would rather be on my deer stand dreaming of April.

i wish i had space to keep boat so available at this time of year.  don't hunt and just missed out on 2-3 days of great weather to be out there on the water. but since boat can't be kept at home and i generally wrap boat up at the end of october, it makes a long winter 'til spring.
if it feels good - SET THE HOOK!!
