Went out to mona on saturday and had a great day. We managed 21 bass just about a perfect split between smallies and largemouths on everything from a drop shot to spinners. We even caught two little walleys and a 32 inch pike. This lake is so under rated and over passed with muskegon just 5 miles up the shore.

TCook

how big were the bass?
FISH HARD!!!

chrisvmo

9 keepers the biggest being a 19 inch smallie. didn't have a scale but im worken on a picture from my budy.

chrisvmo

talked to another basser at the launch and they had pretty similar success.

Is the drop shot legal to fish on mona?  I thought it was defined as a drowned river mouth?

chrisvmo

I hope so...so that would make it illegal on macatawa, muskegon, white, and the grand?

Always pays to read the regulations and make sure you remember them. I read the guide several times a year myself. Boring maybe, but I hunt down the actual regulations, fisheries orders and such on the Michigan.gov web site too. I have some of the important ones stickied here on the forum on the conservation board to make it easier for all of you. No guarantees of course.

From the original drop-shotting Fisheries Order - definition of drowned river mouth lakes by county that are still illegal to the technique without at least a 3" dropper to the bait from the main line:

*Drowned river mouth lakes listed by county: Allegan: Kalamazoo River and Silver Lake; Benzie: Betsie Lake; Manistee: Arcadia Lake, Manistee Lake, and Portage Lake; Mason: Pere Marquette Lake; Muskegon: Duck Lake, Mona Lake, Muskegon Lake, and White Lake; Oceana: Pentwater Lake, Silver Lake, and Stony Creek; Ottawa: Macatawa Lake and Pigeon Lake.

I like Mona Lake very well too. Lots of good memories. Haven't been there for a few years. Glad to hear the lake is still hanging in there.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
