Despite a drastic cold front and 30-40 mph winds that brought 2-3 footers on a relatively small lake we managed to have a respectable day for Paw Paw Lake. We fished out of Skeetermans boat from 7AM to 8PM with myself, Phil, and Jason. Although the bass are in multiple stages we opted to fish backwater for spawning largemouth and for smallies briefly in the morning. This was an easy decision considering the wind and abundance of beds.
In the morning on a mainlake smallie area we made a couple passes and gave up since the wind was simply blowing too hard too fish it properly. All we had to show for our efforts was a 2 pound largie and a 6 pound walleye. The rest of the day we fished beds that was out of the wind and got into them pretty good. The bass were not that aggressive you really had to work today to get bit and with patience many times it paid off. Overall we cought 30-35 solid bass between the 3 of us mostly in the 2.5-3.5 range and a handfull of 4's mixed in. Best 3 went 4-10, 5-5, and 6 pounds even. Many of the bass were cought on Nemesis sickos and jigs. Another average spring day on Paw Paw, man I love this lake!! Here is a pic of Jasons 6 pounda and the walleye I cought today.
