Rolling on the River
By: Ivy Hughes, 9/23/2009

A major river runs through the most populated parts of the City of Lansing, but unfortunately, most people have never been on it, and often times can't even tell when they're near it.

From Sept. 14 to Sept. 18, local developer Pat Gillespie ran daily riverboat tours on the hour every hour as a call to action for citizens and community leaders to take ownership of the underutilized riverfront and turn it into Lansing's playground.

Is there any good bass fishing in the grand river in Lansing.

There are smallmouth, smallies, and bronzebacks to be had with all the rocks and boulders.  Caught many as a kid from Fitzgerald Park and my brother and I still meet occassionally to take a crack at 'em around Grand Ledge.

Forgot to add that they are mostly small ones but can be plentiful for a fun day.

Lots of largemouth bass through Lansing due to the dams backing up the river into deeper pools and backwaters. Some shore fishing available in Lansing at the various parks too. Downtown. By the Moores Park dam. Grand River Park.

The bass are not everywhere. The fishing can be slow and tough for bass some of the time. Lots of little ones.
