Been doing a lot of thinking the past 24 hours. My best friend's wife Sharon Dekker passed away late yesterday after many ups and downs with illnesses. This is almost exactly 4 years to the day since her husband, and my best friend, Larry Dekker passed away much too young.

I've been off balance and many things have not been the same since. Sharon has also been struggling with her health much of this time. Sadly, her struggles on this Earth are now over.

For anyone who may have not already been contacted by the family or seen the details and would like to now, here they are:

Sharon Rose Dekker
Lansing Michigan

Sharon, age 68, went home to Jesus and her beloved husband, Larry, on February 24, 2010. She was born in Millington on January 31, 1942 the daughter of Cleon and Hilda Kester.

Sharon loved her family and friends dearly. Her greatest joy was supporting her grandchildren in their many activities. She was an avid fan of the MSU Spartan hockey and basketball teams, loved going to the casino, and enjoyed camping and fishing trips with Larry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry, and sister Nancy Johns. She is survived by her son, Bryan (Pam) Smith of DeWitt; daughter, Traci (Dean) Simmons of Holt; grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Lauren Crawford, Nick Crawford, Alex Smith, and Sam Simmons; brothers, Gailan (Linda) Kester and Lonnie (Carol) Kester, all of Millington; sister, Tammy (John) Kowitz of Millington; many nieces and nephews; and her loving extended Dekker family.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7910 E. St. Joe Hwy., Lansing, with Pastor Roy C. Olsen III officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, and one hour prior to the service time on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, which she proudly supported throughout her lifetime.

I wish I had taken her fishing one more time for Larry.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I'm, always sorry for the losses to those of us still here. But, one thing to always remember Dan, where she is, she never has to hang up that rod.

My condolences to you and your wife DK.

Because of you Dan I got to know what genuine people they both were and cannot fully appreciate, but share your loss.  As always...my prayers are with you and to the Dekker family.

My condolences Lt. Dan. Good friends are certainly hard to come by, and their losses  always  weigh heavy on our hearts. Letting their spirits live on in your memory is something they would be proud of.
