2nd and 3rd lakes, Fremont

My dad and I have been fishing a lot of new water lately, out of boredom with the same old lakes.  This morning, we ended up on 2nd and 3rd lake in Fremont.  I have been told about these lakes by a few guys that I work with, and decided to give it a shot.

We got to the tiny launch at about 7 this morning.  We took my dad's 12 foot Bass Tracker.  There is no way to get a big boat in there.  The launch is very tiny, gravel, and shallow.  Gas motors cannot be used on the lake.  There were very few houses, and the drop offs were very steep.  The water was very clear.  One end of the lake has a golf course on it.  At that end, is a very shallow creek that connects 2nd and 3rd lakes.  It was kinda tricky to get through, and under the two bridges for golf carts.

We started out throwing plastics, and finished that way.  We caught a lot of fish.  We were having so much fun that we didn't keep count.  The guys at work told me stories of big fish, but we struggled to find fish that were 14 inches.  We saw lots of big fish symbols on the finder, but never caught anything to brag about.  Only caught large mouth, and saw tons of gills, everywhere.  I am not sure what other species may live there. 

While they were far from trophy producers, the lakes gave up lots of fish, and lots of laughs today.  Definitely a neat little place to go and fish in total peace.  Oh yeah, if you ever make it there, watch out for the Amish people who tow a boat behind their horse drawn buggy.  I wish I would have taken a picture, but I was too busy laughing to think about it.

Right down the road on Fremont Lake there was some decent action for the 2011 Labor Day Open - 5lb largemouth and 5lb smallmouth on any given cast sure does make the fun more fun!!!

Holy crap!!  I had no idea there were fish like that there. I have only been on that lake once, and the biggest fish that day was a 3.5# smallie. I guess it is time to learn a new lake.
