I was on the water the other night trolling along with my motorguide when it just quit...i had it on the 24 volt setting but I switched it over to the 12 volt setting and it worked?? I checked all the wires and batteries and they all seem to be fine. I'm guessing its in the foot pedal or motor. anyone experience anything similar to this?

I just went through the same thing on my Motorguide ended up being 1 battery that wouldn't hold a charge, wasn't even a year old.

Get someone that has a meter and knows how to use it. Check voltage at the front of the boat, then check the switch. I just worked on a boat with the same problem, the cause was a loose wing nut on one battery.

That would be a start before taking it someplace.

I live up north by Traverse City if you can wait a couple weeks I will be in Perry just east of Lansing the weekend of the 18-20.

I would look at it for free if you would drive up M-52 and meet me around Webberville or Stockbridge.

Thanks

Cwinsiii I appreciate the offer but ive done all the testing stuff and determined its in the motor itself so I'm going to take it in tomorrow But thanks for the offer!

I hope it doesn't cost to much.

I don't know whats going on this year but it seems like everybody's boat is breaking down.

I had to replace my trolling motor this year also.

I helped some people on vacation this morning on Leelanau there tilt motor went bad.

Thanks
Clare

A friend of mine asked me to check on this forum to see if anyone has been having problems with their motorguide going wacko. His will turn on by itself and at full blast try to throw you out of the boat. Just got it back from getting fixed at DnR and fished this weekend and it did the same thing again. Motorguide tour edition digital with built in sonar. The motor came on his Bass Cat which he got two or three years ago.

It sounds like the board, but if it is digital it isn't the board.  I could be the coating on the wires in the shaft melted off in a spot and are touching.  Mine had the same symtoms and they kept swapping the boards, but when I stripped it for parts i found the real problem.  It will work fine then go nuts on you.
