Crankin Line Of Choice

Just curious as to what line everyone is using with their medium and deep cranking setups.

I use 10 to 12 lb fluorocarbon.  If you are looking for a brand, normally I use Trilene 100%

12# P-Line Fluoro for medium and deep cranking.  I use 15# for lipless or around heavier cover.  Bought some Sufix fluoro on clearance at Gander a couple months back...gonna test it out this spring.

10 lb invizx to get as deep as possible, 12-17 lb invizx or trilene xt depending how deep I want that bait to run.

Crankin now here is a good topic!  I catch 90% of my fish through out the year on cranks and I use 10 pound XL trilene for med. cranking, lets the bait get down and has alot of stretch.  14 Xt for deep crankin.  And 17 100% for lipless.  I started throwing 8 xl for shallow 2 foot or less with a med. hvy. 7 ft. rod seems to work pretty good.  I can cast everything else a mile with the set ups with a 7'11"  rod.

We already had this discussion but I'll tell you again anyway. Either 10 or 12lb P-Line Halo or if I'm cranking the thick stuff 15 or 20lb P-Line Spectrex BRAID.

If I want a little stretch I use Co polymer....Co polymer has pretty much replaced Mono for me in all applications that I would use Mono..I like P-line...

For short casting closer to shore or around docks I use Co-polymer to gain a little more forgiveness for Deep Diving or off shore I use Flouro...
Ripping weeds I have replaced using braid with heavier weight Flouro...Sometimes...

Thanks for the input.......i was looking at this X50 stuff that seagur makes for cabelas, looks like it might not be bad for cranking. Has anyone tried that stuff?

I don't use Co-P for anything anymore.  I think the line memory on that stuff is horrible.  Fluorocarbon stretches almost as much as mono so you really don't need anything but Fluoro.  I tried the Cabelas X50 last year.  It was OK.  I don't remember exactly what I did like it, you should check it out and let us know.

I myself like the 10# XT for the smaller cranks, traps and top water
The strech is your friend with cranks

Seeing how I don't deep crank much at all
It's with a MH rod in 17# McCoy (co-polymer) or if I need to go deeper I'll use the 10# Xt reel on a MH rod

With Fluro there's just to many issues
I'll put up with on a DS rod and I'll use it for leaders but I find no advantang
with it on a crank rod

I think i'm going to try that X50 Cy, i'll give you a report on it when I do. I've never used a copolymor so I was just curious. It sure is cheap compared to fluro.

I have a stash of carbon pro now, can't waist it on my crank reels!!!

invisx or berkley 100%. 10lb or 12lb for most applications. i have also been known to throw traps and shallow cranks (sk series 3) on 30lb power pro and ripping them through the weeds with good success. the BPS XPS flouro is pretty good too. when crankin don't forget the rod. get a moderate action glass or graphite rod in the appropriate power. i prefer glass, but you will get better sensitivity out of graphite.  the slow action helps fight fish. i think glass helps with hook ups on short strikes as well.

This guy is a man after my own heart, as Co ply has pretty much replaced mono for me.  MY preferred co ploy is Excaliber.

BUT IF you are a serious crankin man (by that I mean 6 or more crankin stiks in your boat at any given time) then you will want to have various line on different reels for diff. applications.  For instance:
For deep crankin' youll want to use something low streach, like flouro or braid, or thinner diameter co poly, like 10 or 12 #.  Really no need for mono in crankin.
For shallower crankin like around docks/wood then go w/ a heavier co poly, like 15 or 17 pound.
The other considerations need to be what kind of crankin stik your using for each application.

As usual, GOOD POINT bro!!!  I like diff. rods for diff. situations.  I usually prefer glass or glass composite Kistler for crankin', but when throwin traps or other cranks near grass, I usually go w/ graphite to snap the plug out of the grass.  I also like graphite for topwater plugs.  For topwater plugs I like a bit shorter rod also.
