With the final regular season tournament taking place yesterday it is official:  GLB member Chase5004 is the 2006 Points Champion, this in his rookie year.  He led the season wire to wire, way to go Pat, what a year!

2nd through 4th place on the year go to all GLB members! 2nd place = savage, 3rd place = ronhuntfish, and 4th place goes to smbassman

Congratulations to all members of Team Bass on another terrific season of bass busting fun.   Also thanks to all of you that sent the e-mails and called me as I went through the craziest summer of my life, I really appreciate it, you are all great friends....and that is what its all about. ;)

Remember you don't quit fishing when you get old, you get old when you quit fishing

Thanks, I never expected to do as well as I did. A little luck goes a long way. A big thanks again goes to smbassman and Gary W. for getting me off to a good start to the year. Without those two guys I probably would have finished in the middle of the pack.

With the year quickly coming to an end, and having been around the club a little now, I have nothing but good things to say for the men in our club. Having said that I would have to give a good plug to our club (TEAM BASS) and would have no problems recommending it to anyone interested in joining. There is a lot of good knowledge to be had from the many good fishermen that fish with this club.

Looking back at this year so far I at least managed to reach my original goal which was to qualify for the 2007 State fish off. I guess the real question now is will I be able to defend the points championship in 2007.

Not if you end up in the back of my boat again!!!!!!! ;D ;D

I don't think you have to worry about that, I will be going as a boater from here on out, unless something happens to my boat (knock on wood). I will just start following you everywhere you go, HAHA!!!!!

ronhuntfish

Gee Pat, couldn't you have caught a fish that was .05 lbs bigger?  Then you could have placed 1st-2nd-3rd-4th- and 5th, instead of 6th.  That would have been a good one to put in the record books.

I did notice while looking at the numbers, if you blanked on Smallwood, you have only beat Savage by 2.51 point!  Now that is close.  One fish can make a big difference.

I am in the process of uploading the results to teambass.net as I speak/type.  Should be there before the night is over.

Congratulations chase5004. Maybe we need some details - what did you catch and where?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Well, here is the season in a recap.

I started off as a non-boater because all of the lakes TEAM BASS was fishing this year I had never fished. Event #1 paired me with smbassman on Black Lake. He had been prefishing and was on some bedding sm. As is played out I had three fish with about 30 mins to go and luck was with me and I caught two more quality fish with about 20 mins to go to give me a limit of about 18-19lbs. All those fish came on tubes and senkos good enough for a 1st place.

Event #2 paired me with Gary W on Long Lake. After a tough couple of hours we found a area on a break the held some good quality sm (none of the fish that day for me came on beds). It took awhile but I put a limit in the boat again about 18-19 lbs all the fish came on tubes good enough for a 2nd this time around.

Event #3 I went as a boater and we were on a mid michigan lake targeting LM. I had a chance to prefish a couple of days prior, and I found one spot I felt good with. As it turned out I had to move a little bit, but I was able to put a limit in the boat. I learned a big lesson on that lake though as it turned out. I was fighting a big LM and I got too excited and I ended up lossing that fish, which would have probably helped my sack out. Anyway my fish came on senkos and J&P. This was really the first time I forced myself to say with the J&P and needless to say I have a bunch of confidence in that bait now. I ended the day in 3rd.

Event#4 put us on the Bay a week before the state fish off. I would again be going as a boater for this event. I was looking forward to this tourny because I had found a nice quality area for sm. I fished it on two seperate occasions and found good fish there both times. Unfortunately, it turned out to be really rough on the tourny day and most of the guys stayed in the river. Myself and Gary W. decided to make a trip in the rough seas and hit one of the rivers. As it played out I managed three LM. I really thought this was going to be my down fall to the season. Savage, who was in 2nd place had good fish in the Saginaw river, but it turned out that his fish were not home on tourny day. My fish that day came on tubes, worms, and senkos. I finished in 4th and actually gained ground on Savage.

5th and Final event found us on Smallwood (And I hope we never ever go back to that dead sea!!!!!!!!!) The funny thing about this event is that I was actually supposed to be paired with Savage as his non-boater. After a brief conversation between myself and Savage and getting the okay from the club tourny director we decided that there would be no problems if we did not fish together. For this event I had a large enough points lead that all I needed to do was to catch one fish, well heck anyone could catch just one keeper right, well what a task that turned out to be. I think I caught my lone keeper around 1000-1030 in the morning, and I gave that fish two opportunities to get off. The fish gods must have been smiling on me that day because I finally managed to land that huge LM (2.13lbs to be exact). Savage managed to get one keeper himself however, it was not a 30 or 40 lber that he would probably have needed to over take the points lead. As it turned out I was told that if I would have zeroed on Smallwood (AKA DeadWood) I would still have retained the points lead by a whopping 2+ points. Man, that is a little to close for me. I will give Savage a huge plug for never taking the pressure off. I know that if his fish would have been home on a couple of those events he would probably smoked all of us. That's why I think a lot of luck goods a long way with tourny fishing.

There it is in a nut shell, from my perspective. Again, all in all what a great year, and learning experience. Looking forward to next year and some more learning.

COngrats man.  That's how fishing goes "if the fish were there" could of would of should of.  The guys that win stay versitile and it sounds as if you did that.  Good job man.
