The lake is loaded with quality bass, the very best smallmouth in the united states or at least tied with Erie and Champlain.

Next - time for homework - Review all the posts of recent reports on GLB.  Many on this site.  Http://www.greatlakesbass.com/forum/index.php?board=44.0.   7 or 8 pages on the FLW open which was just here 2 weeks ago on their site.  The fish are in their summer pattern. The pros gave away everything in their interviews. Several stated they might just move up here because they didn't realize this incredible fishery existed.

the fish on our end (Canadian) are on a fall pattern according to the reports i am hearing, coming in at 10ft - 14ft, which is where all the larger bags came from in a local tournament held aug 19.

As far as the river is concerned, prior to the flw event it was coughing up some absolutely huge bags

thats the AO we used when up in June for a week during catch and release. Most likely be using Selfridge DNR Ramp and been to the tackel store there before. What depth the holding? just working the local spy net work and know alot will change in 26 day and a wake up Great Site for a non local to reseach before climbing the hill 700 miles Just a for fun fishermen, will pay for good tips in Non Tax Paid Beer, soft drinks or bottle water

I was up the St. Clair River on August 31 and September 1.  There are still fish up there but the huge bags are somewhat gone.  As I moved closer to the main lake but still being in the river, the catch rate was increasing.  When I got out to the lake where the middle channel and north channel started, I found fish to be stacked up and starting to school.  I would almost say that the fish are starting to go into fall patterns but there are still plenty of fish still in summer patterns.  The water temperature since before the FLW event has fallen 3 to 4 degrees in the river.  Before the FLW event, the water temp in the river was 74 degrees.  Friday and Saturday the water temp was 70 degrees.  Usually in the river when that happens the fish follow the bait fish up onto shallow gravel/sand bars.  There were plenty of bait fish on those bars but there was minimal bass action.  The shallow bars out in the lake had way more fish and 2.5 to 3lb fish was the norm.  I had two good days out there once I found them out on the main lake.  The fish are on the move and fall is just around the corner.  At least the pattern is that for now.  It's still early and fish still can be caught up the river but stay close to the main lake.  Good luck. 

Don't forget to drink all the tax free beer you can and eat at Buddy's.  I might also suggest Shield's Pizza.  It is very similar to Buddy's and just as good.  I love both places and a month doesn't go by where I don't frequent one or both of them.  That probably explains that small weight problem I have.      

Do your homework before you get up here.  By the time you do get here the patterns will probably change about a half a dozen times. Good luck.

I think there are previous reports and discussion on this on the forum, but a short version - like many lakes during the fall, some of the bass seem to retrace their spring steps moving into or near similar places they spawned in. I have noticed this in Anchor Bay a number of times in the fall. I've notice this along the Mile Roads sometimes too.

I'll second that on Shield's Pizza. Buddy's and Shield's were numbers 1 & 2 on my list (actually, the only ones on my list, not necessarily in that order) when I lived in Detroit. They may be two of the things that I miss most since moving to Mid-Michigan.

I still occasionaly make a Buddy's stop on my way back from St. Clair.

I'm ready I want to come now...My driveis only 250 miles....I love it there but onlt have been there once in September and did ok.Now I just want a calm day and catch them relatively deep 15 foot.I would love to catch them dropshotting!!!

You can do that in September. You can catch them shallow too. That's what I love about fall fishing. Especially the calm days.

Man I can't wait got 24 and a wake up, already started redoing tackel for the 10th time. Thanks for the info. We hit Buddys and Malones due to very close to the hotel Just hope the wind don't blow blow blow cause that sucks

You can do that in September. You can catch them shallow too. That's what I love about fall fishing. Especially the calm days.

I think I either want to go to St.Clair this fall or Mullet,but I wont be Drop-shotting,right Dan....LOL!!

You can drop shot all you want! You can crankbait! You can burn or slow roll spinnerbaits! You can snap-jig tubes! A little later in the fall you can catch a bunch on blade baits too! I wish fall lasted 6 months.

river is back on again, had some buddies by that have been putting a hurt on some big fish mid river. Was out last night for a couple hrs and stuck some very fat 4lb fish.
