Swimbait/frogging/alabama rig rod for a guy without a boat to put it in...

Can't keep rods in my jon really easily and I tend to fish on other people's rigs which means I need something that will fit in my truck bed.  Anyone have any rod suggestions for a rod that will toss lures up to 2-4 ounces or so that will fit into a bed that will hold a maximum rod length of 7'4"? I was looking at this telescopic Okuma swimbait rod that might fit the bill, but open to suggestions as I'm not really loyal to any particular brand.

Sounds like the tele. rod is your only way to go if your after one over 7'-4"

But being in Michigan. I'd guess the rigs are going to be on the lighter side of
2-4 oz
1/8 oz jig heads times 5 plus the 3/8 oz is only 1 oz plus the tails so if you have a long MH it should work to start with

 try a st croix pm72mh , that's a lighter action muskie rod and it's only 7-2 long. not a broomstick but still has the power to do what you need. plus.. made in america

the pm stands for premier musky-made in wisconsin not mexico. still have one for over 15 years with a 5600al which is the first thumbar ambassedeur made way back when. nice and light and american made. not even sure if they still make it

They have their Legend series, but a $300 rod vs. the $140 rod, I think I'll take the Mojo. Besides, if their Mojo musky are anything like their Mojo bass, that's a great rod.  Thanks for the tip though, I think I found my rod.

not sure if you purchased a rod yet for this application.  a rod that short wont do so well with that heavy of a lure.  i would highly recommend a longer rod.  store it in a rod tube if you must.  you can get pcv from your local hardware store.

I ended up getting a Powell Endurance 725C. I really like it.  Funny thing is, I got a new truck and the bed is wider so I might be able to get a longer rod now.

what swimbaits do you throw now?

Didn't throw many swimbaits last year.  Since the a-rig was pretty much a bust I think I might pick up some inline swimbaits.  Probably just going to stick with soft baits.  Easier on the wallet.  I'm all set on casting rods.  Need to replace my two spinning rods this year.  Powell going to be running a promo soon where you get a free endurance rod so going to keep an eye out for that.

in retrospect i dont think there would be much more savings with soft vs hard.  over all you will probably never replace a hardbait, but i do see what you are talking about.

if you dont need to by new, i would suggest buying items from bbc.  there are often bulk deals from people unloading their tackle.
