What is your preference for lenses? Some say glass is clearer and more scratch resistant, others say plastic is lighter and brighter. I have problems with plastic lenses fogging up in the summer when I have a hat on. My bald head must produce to much heat or something, take the hat off the fogging goes away; but then you can't see in the water because of glare on the inside of the lens.

I personoly have no experience with glass becouse I can never find an affordable pair, I wouldnt spend the money just to have them blown off my face at 75mph!
I go through at least a dozen pairs a season so I buy $10 renagades and solar bats from wallmart or $10 fish eyes from gander and they work great.

Polycarbonate - lightweight and shatter proof.  It is supposed to be a little more scratch proof than regular plastic.  Glass is too heavy for me.  I am just very careful with my glasses since they are prescription.

If I lost a dozen of them a year like CastnBlast, that would cover my boat payments!! :o :o

I bought a few pairs of glass lenses last year, and didn't like them.  I ended up going back to the plastic solar bats from wal-mart.  I found that my eyes will adjust after wearing a paticular pair for a few days and I begin to see better.  I would say for fishing lens color would be more important than glass or plastic, especially for what these glasses cost.

I have Costa's with glass lenses and I can see better with them than I can with polycarbonate lenses. I was was talking to an Ocean Waves rep at the show Friday night and he said that poly lenses are not as clear as glass and can't be polarized 100% like glass. Something to do with the molecular structure of poly lenses not being as pure as glass, or something like that.

Is that true? That was the first time I ever heard that.

Either way when I am wearing my contacts I can see better through glass lenses.

Peace.

Like I said in the previous post.....I'm a "Glass Man"!

I don't believe it's the lens color for me, as I can see better with my Maui Jim's and Hobies which are glass, but the same color lens in my Solar Bat doesn't seem to do the job.

Or it could just be how the different glasses (Solar Bat,Hobie, Maui) fit on my face and protect my eyes.....maybe the glass ones fit better....I don't know??   Never really paid much attention to the fit around my eyes.

All I know... is when it comes to bed fishing........I reach for the Maui's!  ;)

Has anyone tried the goggle style that shaw grigsby wears?  They look like they would be great, but are they worth the tan you'll get from them.

A friend of mine use to wear the goggle style glasses. He liked the way they kept out all the sunlight but had a problem with them fogging up. Maybe the newer ones have better venting.
Peace.

I buy the solar-bats from Wal-mart also, and i live em', as far as the fogging the sell a balm at eyeglass stores that you rub on then polish it off.  It last awhile and if I can remember correctly it cost about $12.
