Has anyone had any experience with the XTools gripNweigh ?

thanks

Charlie

I've been curious about the tool also. Anyone?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

The grip part works great for controlling the fish. In fact I had a 10 pound carp on one last winter in the Hot pond jump out of the boat with the Xtools still in its mouth, it (tool) never floated to the surface!! I have another now and I used to sell them, they flat out work. The cull straps need to be modified with differnet clips, but that was easy.

Accurate scale also.

Genie

Much simpler than the Cul'M'Rite and you can change the batteries yourself!

I agree with the clips, but you can modify those yourself or even use different type cull bobbers from a different kit altogether and number then 1-7 yourself.

Good tool!

Yeah, I can't believe they haven't changed the clips on the cull tags yet.  I had to change mine out for standard style clips because the plastic ones just don't hang on.  Not a good design.  I was thinking about buying the scale...but wonder if it holds fish securely.

Never had a problem with the fish coming off the scale while trying to weigh them.

I have gone to a small individual weigh bag to weigh each fish. One of the best weighing moves I have made. The bag is black and holds one fish easily. They don't flop near as much and there is no way they can come off the scale. Much easier and much faster.

i like mine, the gripper holds well.. yes the cull tags do stink!  the scales seem pretty accurate too.  Ask SAVAGE sometime about the troubles with weighing a pike though.  There is a big 'ol pike carrying around a scale hooked to its jaw in the bottom of Wixom Lake!  Darn that pike slime!!!  ;D

I agree with Dan. I use the black bag too. Also there are more comments on the BFHP. All are positve on the scale.

DanM

We use this scale and would highly recommend it, very easy to use but I concur the cull-straps need to be re-designed. I find that they adgitate the fishes lips...red..raw looking after having them attached for an extended period of time....it can't be a good thing.

I love the gripNweigh also but the cull clips are BADDDD, I took some line from my weed whip, made it about 14 in long. Cut the numbers off the gripNweigh cull floats and used crimps, crimped the numbers 1-5 on one end of the weed whip line, then I used some(off a fish stringer) clips and attached the to the other end. I hate putting a hole in the mouth of a 5lb smallie but they need to stay on.

A way to save putting a hole in the lip is to run the stringer through the gill/mouth and attach it to itself.

Imaging holding up a big pike or something and you hold it up by the gill - same concept except run the bober line all the way through and out the mouth (Be careful of the gill plates though).

Then, simply hook the end of the line to the rest of the bobber and it will not come off and no need for a hole in the mouth.
