New to the site and first time poster. Nice to see some quality outings here and not all the drama. I'm a prolific smallie chaser....basically, I got the fever.

Hit up Higgins this weekend. My buddy has a cabin on the lake and we've talked for years during other excursions that we wanted to try Higgins for smallies. It's tough getting out on the weekends with all the boat traffic during the summer when the water is right. Anyway, water was 46 degrees.....enough said. Hit the south sunken island, in front of the marina, and cut river mouth. Had a couple follows...that was about it. Not giving up though...gonna hit again when the water warms and they move up from the abyss.

There are many real big smallmouth bass in Higgins. It can be spotty but the sunken islands, the big island and a couple points are the key spots. Find gravel/rock mixed in with the sand and the smallies will be there. They move up quick when they move.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

higgins is a great fishery when its on.i will be up there this weekend i also have a cottage on higgins.sunken island is a must also try along detroit point lots of large to medium rock with sharp drop offs.also if boat traffic gets to crazy witch it usually does head to the north side less traffic but watch out for the rocks around treasure island.they will sneak up and snap a prop off quick.in late hot summer tie on a drop shot go to far north side by the v.f.w property there is to big sand gravel humps that hold fish.you might get lucky enough to hook in to one the monster lake trout there running the ridges of the drop offs this time of year.look for the big yellow bennington pontoon that will be me swing on by let me know how its going.
