I did it.  I made my first non shimano reel purchase in 10 years or better.  I have had my eye on the Summit since i first layed eyes on it a few monthes back.  Yesterday at BPS, i made my way to the reel counter and had the old chap behind the counter pull her out.  I caressed it thoroughly for several minutes, and just as i was about to say i'll take it, another caught my eye.  It was the Abu Garcia Revo SX.  At $10 cheaper, and with one more bearing, it quickly became another option.  I played with the Revo and liked it very much.  I know nothing of Abu Garcia, i know they have a huge reputation in the fishing reel world, but i have never owned one.  I dont think i have ever casted one before.  But same thing with the Plfueger.  I have never owned or casted one.  Whats a guy to do?  The Summit was a much nicer looking reel.  The Revo was pretty plain jane looking and it is black in color.  Kinda bland although looking back now, a black reel might have looked pretty cool on a black Airrus Co Matrix rod.  But alas, a little voice inside my head lead me to my final decision.  The voice was that of our own Lt Dan.  He must have sensed a disturbance in the Pflueger force and sent me a subconsious message using his telekinetic mind ray.  The message went something like this:

McCarter, buy the Pflueger.  I use them and I catch all sorts of big fish.  Also, you need more crankbaits and football jigs.  Dont worry, your wife will only be mad for a little while.  She will get over it.  Trust me.  I have been doing this for years.  If she gets really mad, just tell her i superimposed you and she shouldnt blame you.  And also, sign up for all the BFLs and blame that on my super mind control abilities as well.  Also, you are the coolest guy in the world and all the kids want to be like you when they grow up.  You are a totally sweet fisherman, too!

I thought the compliments were nice, so i heeded Lt Dans advice and bought all the items he said i needed.  Plus a few others.  I tried to explain to my wife how i had been forced through secret mind rays from Lansing to spend so much money, but she wasnt buying it.  Me and the Pflueger slept on the couch last night.  It was worth it.

You won't regret that decision, I agree with Dan. I upgraded to a President, a Trion and a Purist to round out my two Quantum 501 Accurist. I sold a Quantum 401 on this website and I've got a Lew's  low profile that's gotta go also All the Pfluegers, I like especially the President. Has Lt. Dan let any of us down. Noooooooo. May the force be with you

All I can say is that I've had 3 other baitcasters (brand Q and others) that broke.  But my Pfluegers have stood the test of time.  I've even forgotten to oil the bearings and gotten them wet...oiled them back up and they were as good as new.  Even the 6 bearing models seem to cast better than some of the other brands.  They just know how to make 'em.

There is a guy on Bass Boat Central selling a Pflueger Summit for $ 60.00 right now including shipping. It's used, but that is a great price. Check it out.

I too had the calling to the reel counter and went away from shimano fo rthe first time - The force must not have been as strong on Friday, as I went the Abu Garcia direction for the Revo STX 7.1.  I must admit it feels pretty good, and certainly doesn't have the "couch" issues.  Can't wait to spool her up and put it through her paces.  Think Spring!

I bought the Pflueger President spinning two years ago on Dan's recommendation.  I have absolutely no complaints at all.

But then again, I really like my symetre too.......
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

Im sold!

I am now a full blown Pflueger fan.  I spent a couple weeks using my new Summit reel to skip a 4" tube underneath my dresser while watching tv in our family room.  2 hours or more each night, everynight.  It drove my wife insane, especially if Survivor was on.  I liked it then, but still wanted to see  how it would do on the water.

I got to put it to the test tuesday and wednesday.  All i can say is WOW, what a reel.  Its light, smooth, and casts a 1/4 oz rattle trap ( my favorite spring time pan fish lure ) a friggin mile and a half.  The breaking system allows  you to fine tune it so you can fire right to the wind, and im talking it was windy, without backlashing.  I cant say enough good things about this reel.  I couldnt be happier.  Its not quite as light as the Chronarch Mg but i will put it up against my Mg anyday.  It is a bad mofo.  And at a fraction of the cost.

If you want a sweet reel at a good price, give this one a look.

for all you pflueger lovers... the BPS extreme baitcasters are Trions i believe. They can be had for an excellent deal during the spring fishing blowouts.

Sure, just as soon as they send me out a pro form.

Im just a 'patch pirate' looking to get more names on my patch filled tournament shirt.  Thats what us 'pirates' do.  Sometimes you can find good deals on Ebay on patches.  Me and the other 'pirates' like to get together on weekends and trade our patches like baseball cards.  Its a whole lots of fun.

I checked out the Summit last weekend also. I fully planned on getting one but I thought that it was a little big in my hand for a real low profile reel. I also tried out the Revo, but I cannot give in to 100% magnetic braking. Ended up picking up a Chronarch Mg. I have not spooled it up yet but it feels great and just fits in my palm perfectly.

I got that BPS Extreme super high speed and it is a super smooth reel. Smaller than my other baitcasters. For 80.00$ (regular price) you can't beat it.

Revtro

Bender, you can't go wrong with the MG.  That reel rocks.  I wish I could afford a few of them.  If you end up looking for a smaller baitcaster and don't want to pay for more MG's, next time try the Pfleuger Purist LP.  It's smaller than many of the other Pfleugers and honestly, I personally think it casts just as nice as the more expensive models.  It's also got a nice easy open side to adjust the brakes which I really like.  In fact, if I could, I'd probably switch out many of my higher priced Pfleugers for the Purist LP models.

On www.bassboatcentral. a guy is selling two Pflueger Supremes for $150.00 or $ 80.00 each

fishon1219

After reading the earlier posts and seeing how excited McCarter was with his Summits I went out and bought 2 of them. I was origanily going for another Chronarch Mg, but with the summit I could get 2 for the price of the shimano (well almost).

I got to use them in my first tournament of the year. I had one on my crankbait rod and one on my flipping/pitching rod. These are some great reels.

They cast smoothly and the retrive is great for pitching. When you are out of the strike zone you get your jig back quickly and right back were it needs to be.

They cast great in the wind and have an excellent drag. I found that out on the last cast of the day when I hooked something huge.

I am now going to buy 2 more. I just got a bunch of new rods from Powell and they are so light I dont want to ruin the feel with my heavier curados.

I cant wait.

I just purchased 4 Powell rods and they are so light, that I needed to put my Pflueger's on just to know I had something in my hands. Two baitcaster's and two spinning reels. Pflueger's the only way to go.
